Role Summary In this role you will lead a team of highly talented engineers to deliver on Vehicle Dynamics attributes related to the Powertrain & Braking subsystem. Responsible for working with program / attribute leads to set targets and technological direction for current & future programs. Organize, set vision and mission for the team to enable cross-functional collaboration within and outside of the group. Responsibilities Responsible for building out and leading the Powertrain & Braking controls team - supporting all vehicle programs (R1, EDV, MSP) Team responsibilities: Define user stories for both lateral and longitudinal motion control impacted by the powertrain and braking subsystems Define subjective and objective vehicle level requirements influenced by the powertrain and braking subsystems (holistically integrated with broader vehicle dynamics attribute) Partner with Vehicle Controls team for software development / algorithm specification Partner with external suppliers to specify requirements informing system integration & application development Define test plan / test standards to consistently support development / validation work across all programs Calibrate torque path (Rivian internal) and brake controls (supplier aided) to meet Vehicle Dynamics attribute targets Coordinate & execute vehicle level DVP / validation across relevant subsystems, feeding into vehicle production / saleability milestones Generate reports documenting Vehicle Dynamics development / validation for broad distribution across the business Ensure healthy coordination between the Dynamics team and other cross-functional development teams amongst Rivian (Attributes, Vehicle Controls, Vehicle Line, Test & Development, Chassis, Manufacturing Operations, Test & Integration, Diagnostics, etc) Provide clear direction on team priorities and resource assignment - in line with company wide objectives Present on behalf of Vehicle Dynamics for program specific topics raised in design and attribute reviews Develop/champion new technology adoption (hardware & software) to progress Vehicle Dynamics capability to achieve class-leading status Build out vehicle level simulation capability with the intent to provide direction to the program while minimizing the need for physical testing Work with Vehicle Dynamics Systems Engineering team to ensure feature requirements are captured and cascaded to relevant subsystem leads formally through Rivian tool chain’s Work with Controls team on defining the software roadmap for features/functions/bug fixes - setting priorities in line with business objectives Help to define software requirements for the Controls team to ensure dynamics performance is captured during code development / algorithm design Collaborate with suppliers to ensure targets are clear and roadblocks are removed as quickly as possible, by facilitating internal conversations and work packages to resolve issues Partner with Rivian commercial / Purchasing team to engage with suppliers for relevant development work (new program quotations, continued EDD support, Program change requests, etc) Qualifications BS in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or Controls Systems Engineering 5-10 years of experience in automotive product development focused on Vehicle Dynamics / Chassis controls development Experience operating within a vehicle development cycle on a new vehicle or major model change project from initial target setting phase through development, testing and launch. Ideally having experienced at least one full, end-to-end development cycle Experienced in dynamics controls system development, target setting, simulation, testing, and validation methodologies. A strong understanding of vehicle dynamics principles & systems engineering System-level understanding of vehicle integration, with specific focus on brake actuation & powertrain technologies Strong leadership behaviors. Proven track record of ability to define, manage, and deliver vehicle-level attributes Pay Disclosure Salary Range/Hourly Rate for California Based Applicants: $171,100.00 - $213,900.00 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
