Manager, Product Software Engineering

Summary:

Manages and coordinates activities related to the design, development and implementation of software operating systems for products. Oversees the development of architectural, software engineering, and test strategies and systems.  Grows strong teams.
Leads and supervises agile software development team(s) in delivering software products and components to support multi-tier SaaS solutions on time with high quality delivery.  Design and build products that delight customers  utilizing Agile methodologies, primarily SCRUM, while fostering a culture of engagement with an environment conducive to innovation and career development.

Job Duties

Works with engineering teams, architects, quality assurance analysts, technical leadership and product owners to ensure alignment to business requirementsParticipates actively and provides leadership in the full SDLC including requirements analysis, solution design, software engineering, quality engineering and technical documentation.Stays up-to-date with emerging technology and industry trends.  Evaluate new tools and technologies to continuously improve web application development practices.Actively participates in problem solving and resolving technical issues and challenges.  Proactively identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategiesResponsible for designing and implementing quality up front initiativesWorks in partnership with Product Management to achieve product delivery goalsOversees and participates in development and implementation of designs and approves designsResponsible for shipping high quality products on time and on budget.  Manages projects and the Agile teams working on themApproves project initiativesCollaborates with directors to determine departmental budgets and schedules, and to ensure they are metResponsible for reviewing cost/benefit analyses of design alternatives and collaborates with technical staff before selecting final designEnsures the identification and implementation of improvements to the development processResponsible for improving efficiencies and reducing costs through adherence and enhancements to project management and/or Agile methodologies, if established for the departmentResponsible for effectively identifying and migrating non-development tasks to support work teamsConducts coaching and performance reviews, recommends candidates for promotion, and manages performance improvement plans as necessaryFosters overall employee career developmentManages recruiting efforts to fill individual positions and selects candidates for hire

Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or equivalent software engineering degree or experienceAdept at the following tools and technologies: C#, .NET and the Microsoft development stack, , Web development tools including Angular, data modeling and data storage strategies, containerization and Web application hosting frameworks.Minimum 7-8 of relevant experience working within product software engineeringExperience actively utilizing Artificial Intelligence to improve both the application development process and software product user experience is a strong plus.Managing Agile, particularly SCRUM teams who develop on the full end-to-end Microsoft stackExperience leading teams or projectsExperience designing and implementing quality up front initiativesStrong organizational, planning, and communication skills. Ability to work hand in hand with Product Management to achieve product delivery goalsCommunicates in a professional manner when interacting with less-experienced staff, peers, senior staff, and internal or external customersDemonstrates the ability to actively listen to othersCommunicates project plans, goals, and status to other work unitsCommunicates departmental and project strategies within area of influenceChannels strategic ideas and other input from staff to senior levelsProduces well-written business documentationWrites project justification documents, including capital expenditure requests, and presents proposals to senior staffPrepares and conducts presentations for various user areas and staff levels, including senior managementCoaches less-experienced staff members in a mentor-type relationshipInfluences the goals and plans of other work unitsWorks with other work units and acts together toward common goalsInteracts and collaborates with peers, other teams, and other departments in a cooperative spiritFosters an environment in which others are encouraged to be innovative and are rewarded for innovation
