**Job Summary**
This position is accountable for managing all aspects of Radiation Protection and Chemistry in conformance with regulations, commitments, industry and company standards. This role ensures activities are completed in accordance with standardized company fleet practices, policies and procedures. The manager maintains or drives radiation protection and chemistry programs to minimize worker and public dose and the spread of contamination.
This position is also accountable for managing all aspects for asset preservation at the station. Control and implement programs for plant chemistry, radiochemistry, solid/liquid/gaseous effluent control, and environmental compliance (e.g. perform primary chemistry control, perform radiochemical analysis, chemical treatment of closed cooling systems IAW EPRI Guidelines), Develop and maintain procedures related to chemistry and environmental, Manage data (e.g. record, store and trend chemistry parameters),Interface with regulatory bodies on chemistry issues (e.g. all EPA permit maintenance/state interfaces) and control of chemicals as maintained by the Chemical Control Program.

**Job Description**
**Key Accountabilities**
+ Responsible for maintaining open communications and responsive coordination with all other station organizations, EH Nuclear, regulators and site management for effective implementation of the Radiation Protection Program.
+ Direct, control and coordinate the activities of the Radiation Protection section to meet station performance metrics.Ensure activities are completed in accordance with standardized EH Nuclear fleet practices, policies and procedures. Ensures satisfactory performance and qualification of assigned personnel; develops assigned personnel. Provides leadership and strategic focus for staff.Accountable for training, qualification, and performance of section personnel.
+ Responsible for providing leadership and direction to ensure that the Company is in full compliance with applicable regulatory requirements regarding radiation safety.
+ Provide support for station operations and maintenance activities. Responsible for oversight of personnel and public dose monitoring and reporting.Ensures the preparation and adequacy of personnel exposure records, bioassay samples and radiation protection and contamination surveys to assure plant personnel radiation exposure is kept as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA).
+ Ensure the timely preparation and maintenance of records and reports concerning radiation and radioactive material as required by Federal, State and Local agencies. Participate in industrial committees as the Company representative in Health Physics.
+ Responsible for working with assigned Fleet Manager to establish and implement standardized radiological protection processes across EH Nuclear andto implement the Company's related strategic initiatives as identified in the EH Nuclear Business Plan.
+ Direct compliance with the Company's Quality Assurance Program, the plant's administrative requirements, radiological control procedures and various codes, standards, and regulatory guides to which radiological activities must be performed.
+ Controls radioactive source material, provides oversight of radioactive waste management and transportation, and manages the respiratory protection program including respiratory equipment maintenance.
+ Responsible for oversight of the radiation monitoring survey equipment program.
+ Responsible for Radiation Protection initial and continuing training programs in accordance with Nuclear Academy for Nuclear Training Accreditation standards.
+ Responsible for outage coordination with vendors & contractors and for working with the fleet peer group and resource sharing activities related to supporting fleet outages.
+ Implement the station chemistry program as it relates to all chemistry, environmental and effluent surveillance, controls and operations.Coordinate the development, review and approval of procedures and work instructions for the Chemistry Section.
+ Responsible for providing leadership and direction for all aspects of the water chemistry and environmental compliance at assigned nuclear station.
+ Implements the station environmental control and monitoring program.Interface with state and federal environmental protection agencies regarding permit-mandated controls, sampling, reports, and permit amendments.
+ Controls non-radioactive liquid and solid waste programs.
+ Responsibility includes advising the Manager, Operations on matters of chemistry, particularly with respect to ensuring that the plant is in full compliance with applicable regulatory chemical requirements.
+ Responsible for industrial environmental issues and NRC related reporting
+ Responsible for working with assigned Fleet Manager to establish and implement standardized chemistry / environmental processes across the fleet, and to implement the Company's related strategic initiatives as identified in the business plan.
+ Provide leadership for and manage the development and implementation of programs for plant chemistry, radiochemistry, solid and liquid effluent control, and environmental programs.
+ Ensure the timely development, preparation and maintenance of records and reports concerning reactor coolant, secondary/BOP water chemistry and radiochemistry, and waste effluent as required by Federal, State and local agencies.
+ Direct the preparation, review, and revision to procedures required to implement the Chemistry group's activities in accordance with regulatory requirements and the Company's QA Program.
+ Participate in industrial committees as the Company representative for nuclear power plant chemistry.
+ Assign tasks and manage personnel to ensure due dates and completions standards are met.
+ Ensures satisfactory performance and qualification of assigned personnel; develops assigned personnel for increased responsibility and more demanding projects.
+ Provides leadership and strategic focus for staff, communicate expectations, priorities, and goals for staff.
+ Develop budget and control expenditures to meet budget.
+ Perform duties required to support the Emergency Plan
+ Ensures that Chemistry participates in the appropriate Intra and Inter Laboratory QA/QC crosscheck programs
+ Ensures the Radiochemistry Program participates in the appropriate QA/QC crosscheck program
+ Ensures that Chemistry participates in the appropriate State Mandated Laboratory QA/QC crosscheck programs to maintain required certifications.
+ Ensure that section members that require various certifications by local, state or federal agencies maintain their training or other requirements to maintain proficiency or continued certification.
**Education, Experience, & Skill Requirements**
+ Must meet Regulatory Guide 1.8, September 1975: QAPM Rev 9)ORANSI N18.1-1971 (4.2.4) qualification requirements. (NOTE:An individual within the Radiation Protection Department must satisfy the qualification requirements of Regulatory Guide 1.8, September 1975.This requirement MUST be satisfied by the individuals filling either the Radiation-Chemistry Manager position or the Supt. Nuclear Radiation protection). REGULATORY GUIDE 1.8, September 1975 QAPM Rev. 9)
+ Requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in science or engineering including formal training in radiation protection.
+ Requires a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in applied radiation protection at a nuclear power facility. A masters degree is equivalent to one year of professional experience and a doctors degree is equivalent to two years of professional experience where course work in radiation protection is involved.Should be familiar with the design features and operations of nuclear power stations that affect the potential for exposure of persons to radiation.
Qualifications Preferred:
+ Experience in management and applied areas of radiological safety such as radioactive waste management and shipping, ALARA operation radiation protection, REMP/RETS, dosimetry and radiochemistry.
+ Industry exposure preferred (i.e. INPO assist visits, INPO loanee Assignment, Industry Committee Representation, etc.)
+ Masters /PhD degree in Health Physics or closely related field
+ Certified Health Physicist
+ Incumbent will be required to reside within site specific emergency response organization (ERO) response time.

ANSI N18.1-1971 (4.2.4).
**Qualifications Required:**
+ Minimum of eight (8) years' experience in responsible positions, of which one (1) year shall be nuclear experience. A maximum of four (4) years of the remaining seven years of experience should be filed by satisfactory completion of academic training.
+ Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Health Physics or closely related field
**Qualifications Preferred:**
+ Masters Degree or PhD in Chemistry/Biochemistry, Health Physics or related Science / Technical field
+ Previous supervisory experience.
+ Certified Health Physicist
+ Requires demonstrated supervisory/leadership experience.
+ Incumbent will be required to reside within site specific emergency response organization (ERO) response time
