About the Team Our Merchandise Planning and Allocation (MP&A) teams are the driving forces behind making the organization’s product visions available to our consumers through calculated and strategic measures. Your involvement in sales and margin forecasts, promotional performance analysis, inventory management, and vendor relationships will play a critical role in obtaining goals while maintaining PetSmart’s reputation in the market as a trusted partner to pet parents. About the Location Hybrid Position: This position may be considered Hybrid based on PetSmart’s FlexSmart policy and business needs. A Hybrid work arrangement is considered to be a blend of onsite and remote work activity. Associates with a Hybrid work arrangement have a work space at Phoenix Home Office and can be required to come onsite between 1-5 days a week as determined by leadership and based on business needs. About the Job Manager, Regulatory Compliance This role is responsible for ensuring the key processes that support introducing Proprietary Brand products to market in a socially responsible manner, meeting all regulatory and PetSmart internal standards. In addition, this position is also responsible for developing, managing, and overseeing the operational program function within the company’s Quality Program. This position owns the end-to-end Regulatory Programs and plays a vital role in eliminating inefficiencies and optimizing current processes within Proprietary Brand Compliance. Supervisory Responsibilities 2-3 associates Essential Duties and Responsibilities Serve as a subject matter expert and consultative partner for PetSmart on efforts tied to Regulatory Compliance- Label Compliance, Social Responsibility, Packaging Compliance. Maintains an understanding and interpretation of the laws that govern our products; serve as subject matter expert on the specific laws and requirements affecting PetSmart, Proprietary Brands, and establish effective partnerships with Regulatory agencies. Collaborate with internal and external colleagues to interpret regulations and technical information to develop solutions for ambiguous situations. Serve as point of contact by addressing and troubleshooting Regulatory questions, assisting in the development of remediation plans for issues identified by stores, Phoenix Home Office (PHO) and field leaders. Monitor and evaluate pending labeling regulations and industry developments to determine potential impact and develop relevant action plans. Review and approve label information (e.g., product naming convention, ingredients/materials, nutrition, claims, and graphics), packaging proofs, and online content. Represent externally, including participation in trade and professional associations, as needed. Leads the Enterprise Withdrawal & Recall Program. Effectively leads the state & federal registrations program, ensuring accurate and timely compliance. Leads efforts to attain and maintain 3rd party accreditations such as NASC and USDA Organic. Works closely with Quality & Food Safety Managers across categories to develop deep level understanding of functional program processes and procedures. Leads Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) compliance and reporting programs for the US and Canada based operations. Supports consistency, standardization and enhancement of existing tasks and processes while also developing and executing newly created processes to improve overall efficiency and accountability. Assist in the development and implementation of strategic compliance initiatives. Travel Required: 5-10% Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, technology, or similar STEM area. Minimum of 5 years in the consumer goods industry; manufacturing, wholesale, or retail. Minimum 5+ years’ experience in managerial positions in Regulatory Compliance or Quality Assurance in international consumer goods industry. Regulatory expertise, including experience interpreting and applying regulations to marketing claims and products. Experience understanding product regulations and working with government agencies (FDA, AAFCO, CPSC, CFIA). Ability to make critical business decisions in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrated success in handling multiple cross-functional projects in a complex environment. Experience in influencing business or project strategies to align with regulation & compliance requirements. Knowledge and Skills: Requires effective written and verbal communication skills to effectively present information to all levels of leadership and key partners, including third-party service providers, supplier, and factories. Requires strong ability to lead and develop team of professionals with direct/dotted line reporting into current role. Requires strong ability to influence and in some cases, influence without supervisory authority. Requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills to analyze data and interpret trends to create actionable business plans and strategy. Requires demonstrated ability to lead project and cross-functional teams to resolve complex issues.
