The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Manager Research Support to work at the UHealth medical campus in Miami, Fl.

CORE JOB SUMMARY                 

The Manager, Research Laboratory (A) oversees the day-to-day operations of the research laboratory, including maintenance and upkeep and ensuring an efficient and effective laboratory working environment.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                                          

Formulates and implements short- and long-range goals for the operation of the laboratories. Implements laboratory policies and procedures and coordinates with research staff on issues which impact laboratory services.

Serves as a liaison between investigators, research personnel, and staff to solve specific operating problems and improve technical activities.

Advises on technical procedures, techniques and equipment, and maintains conformance with specific operational standards.

Maintains quality checks on the safety of laboratories and insures maintenance of the facilities according to good laboratory practices.

Assures that the laboratory technicians are properly trained in standard operating procedures and equipment specific requirements.

Assists in the determination of fiscal requirements and in the preparation of budgetary recommendations.

Compiles and prepares reports and analyses, setting forth progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations and conclusions.

Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with university policies and procedures.

Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on university policy and procedures.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                         

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

Knowledge of business and management principles.Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.

Department Specific Functions

Assist with IACUC, IRB, or biosafety protocol submissions and oversee laboratory research activities, including training and supervising personnel. Maintain core datasets, shared resources, and quality controls for reproducibility within the laboratory. Ensure export control and material transfer compliance (MTAs) including preparation and execution of all relevant documentation. Onboard new lab members, coordinate lab schedules, and supervise junior staff. Manage lab budget, documents, space, and meetings in compliance with federal, state, and institution regulatory standards and procedures. Manage all aspects of animal research, including experiment operations, oversight, training and supervision of personnel, and compliance with regulatory standards. Collaborate with research teams to design, optimize, perform, and troubleshoot experimental protocols, ensuring efficient and high-quality results. Maintenance of laboratory safety records, equipment, and writing of standard operating procedures. Implement and manage the laboratory inventory system and oversee supply ordering, stock maintenance, and resource allocation to ensure efficient lab operations.

Department Specific Qualifications                                                                                     

Education:

M.S. in relevant field

Experience:

Minimum 4 years of experience in Urology, Cancer Biology, and/or Metabolism research.
