What You'll Do You will help us build and evolve our distributed and scalable products. We are building Avalara's next generation of SaaS software to be part of every Tax calculation in the world. You will be a well-rounded engineering manager with experience delivering software at scale in an Agile environment. You will report to Senior Manager, Engineering. What Your Responsibilities Will Be Manage direct reports across multiple Scrum teams and time zones Support and develop software engineers by providing advice and mentoring Coach team members on Agile principles Understand how your solutions affect the goals of the business Implement best practices for coding and development processes Participate in an Agile team – including design, development, test automation, planning, backlog refinement and support Support the strategic vision for the product and company Lead and refine development and release processes for multiple products Deliver our needs around high availability and high transactional throughput of a SaaS solution Be Customer and Partner Facing, able to manage an external relationship Be introspective, always trying to improve yourself and the team around you Provide guidance on design and technical solutions What You'll Need to be Successful Bachelor/master's degree in Computer Science Engineering or equivalent engineering degree in related field Minimum of 10+ years of experience in a software development role, shipping complex applications to large scale production environments. Experience designing scalable distributed systems. Exposure to Cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud - at least one of them). Working knowledge to build CI/CD pipeline (GitLab, Terraform). Experience working in Agile team. Experience with data structures and algorithms Experience working with third parties Experience creating CI/CD pipelines Experience optimizing and scaling products Understanding of security protocols and best practices Understanding of AWS Solutions with focus on cost savings and scalability Experience working with JIRA and Confluence Willingness to dive in and get to the bottom of a problem Problem solving and debugging skills Experience with object-oriented design & development and common design patterns Working knowledge of and DB, SQL or NO-SQL Working knowledge of Entity Framework Working knowledge of Web Services #LI-Remote This is a remote role.
