Department OverviewThe Emergency Call Management organization consists of Emergency Call Handling and Emergency Call Routing teams. Production systems running our products from both teams are public cloud-based solutions requiring 99.999% or greater availability.

The Emergency Call Handling team is responsible for SaaS solutions that provide telecommunicators and supervisors intelligence, flexibility and mobility to help save lives. Trusted by thousands, answering over 65% of all 9-1-1 calls in the US, our call handling software offers PSAPs proven technology that increases productivity and continually strengthens how our customers coordinate response, and exchange life-saving information.
Job Description

Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team, overseeing NG911 call routing and handling systems hosted in public and multi-cloud environments (AWS and Azure). This role is critical in ensuring these life-critical systems achieve and maintain the target of 99.999% availability.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership and Development:

Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing our global  SRE team, fostering a culture of reliability, accountability, and innovation.

Define team goals, prioritize tasks, and ensure alignment with organizational objectives.

Provide career development opportunities and regular performance feedback to team members.

Operational Excellence:

Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of high-availability (HA) architectures.

Ensure robust incident response practices are in place, including comprehensive playbooks and on-call readiness.

Drive automation initiatives to improve system resilience and reduce manual intervention.

Proactive Investments:

Lead the team in developing automated health issue detection, self-healing mechanisms, and predictive monitoring tools.

Partner with engineering teams to integrate reliability features into system design and development processes.

Promote a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risks to system availability.

Collaboration and Communication:

Act as a liaison between the SRE team and other stakeholders, including engineering, product management, and executive leadership.

Ensure incident learnings are effectively communicated and addressed in collaboration with development teams.

Provide regular updates on system performance, incident trends, and team achievements.

Continuous Improvement:

Own and track key metrics, such as Mean Time to Detection (MTTD), Mean Time to Recovery (MTTR), and system uptime.

Champion a feedback-driven approach to improve reliability and operational processes.

Stay informed on emerging technologies and best practices to ensure the SRE team remains at the forefront of the industry.

Qualifications:

Experience:

Proven track record in managing or leading SRE, DevOps, or cloud infrastructure teams in complex environments.

Deep expertise in public cloud platforms (AWS and Azure) and multi-cloud architectures.

Experience in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.

Experience in building and maintaining highly available systems targeting 99.999% uptime.

Prior experience with mission critical systems, ideally in emergency call management (NG911) or other public safety solutions

Experience in cooperation with geographically dispersed cross-functional teams (e.g. different time zones)

Technical Skills:

Strong understanding of site reliability engineering principles, including monitoring, alerting, and incident management.

Hands-on experience with automation tools and frameworks (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins, GitHub actions).

Proficiency in distributed systems, predictive monitoring, and self-healing capabilities.

Soft Skills:

Exceptional leadership and team-building abilities.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex topics to technical and non-technical audiences.

Strong problem-solving mindset and a focus on continuous improvement.

Nice to have:

Practical knowledge of one or more of the following technologies would be an additional asset: Java (preferred), .Net Core/C#, Angular, PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server, RabbitMQ / Kafka, Redis

Knowledgeable in public safety communication standards, including familiarity with NENA i3 standards for Next Generation 911.

Basic Requirements

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field

At least 10+ years experience with managing or leading SRE, DevOps, or cloud infrastructure teams in complex environments.

Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position.
