Manager, Taxation

Are you research-oriented, with strong analytical and interpretation skills? We are looking for a Manager, Taxation to join our Accounting and Finance department in Calgary, Alberta.

 

Under the direction and leadership of the Director, Taxation you will be responsible for managing a large portion of ATCO’s overall tax function. This includes minimizing the organization’s tax expense and ensure that it meets all its legal obligations, as well as overseeing the development and implementation of tax planning strategies in accordance with relevant tax legislation. You will also manage a large portion of the organization’s tax compliance and financial reporting processes, and advise ATCO’s operating subsidiaries on a variety of income and commodity tax matters. You will be an active participant in, and leader of a team of over a dozen committed tax professionals.

What Else You Get To Do: 

 

Manage the tax functions of a number of ATCO's subsidiary companies, including US taxation matters  Complete accurate and timely review and analysis of annual Canadian federal and provincial tax filings for the ATCO Group Corporate Office and the above subsidiaries Manage the ATCO group’s compliance under the new Pillar Two and interest deductibility (EIFEL) regimes, including the ATCO’s group’s international tax attributes Serve as a key contact for government auditors, including the management of the reassessment and appeal process and communicating with tax advisors, legal counsel and government officials Liaise with Finance personnel on tax related matters, including monthly reporting, variance analysis, and budgets and planning Complete accurate and timely review and analysis of the monthly, quarterly, and annual income tax provisions  Assist in managing the quarterly and annual reporting obligations in respect of the ATCO Group’s various audited and/or consolidated financial statements Participate in the development of tax planning strategies for mergers, acquisitions and reorganizations within the organization and in third-party transaction Keeps abreast of the latest tax developments and issues that impact ATCO such as changes in legislation, court decisions, rulings, etc. Develops and ensures compliance with the organization’s relevant accounting and tax policies Coach, mentor and lead individuals within the team and in ATCO subsidiaries to develop the skills required to exceed in their roles and take on increasingly senior responsibilities

 

Who You Are: 

Bachelor's degree accompanied by an Accounting designation  7-10 years corporate income tax experience, with a minimum 7 years post-qualification experience Prior experience in a leadership role, comfortable with mentorship, delegation and oversight of work Enrolment in or desire to complete CPA Canada in-depth income tax courses Experience working with joint ventures, regulated utilities, and international operations considered an asset Previous experience within the tax function of either a large corporation with complex operations, or a public practice with a sophisticated client base Experience with US taxation matters considered an asset  Superior technical mind with strength in both tax research and compliance in a complex tax environment, including international operations.  US taxation knowledge is an asset Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to articulate and communicate complex tax issues to a non-technical audience Ability to prioritize and effectively manage a multitude of responsibilities with competing deadlines High ethical standards and personal integrity in all internal and external dealings Demonstrated ability to assess risks arising from sophisticated tax strategies An open mind that shares ideas with others, considers alternative positions, and asks questions with the goal of achieving the best answer for ATCO
