What we need 

We are looking for a best-in-class developer of testing strategies, methods and machinery in support of our mobile robots.  Are you a skilled designer of systems to test robotics?  Are you looking to break into Robotics and have a strong aptitude in Electro-Mechanical and Software design?  Then we want you.    

The Test Engineering Manager will have the latitude to establish unique and innovative designs that will be used to stimulate and measure performance of our mobile robots. You will leverage your skills in Hardware and Software to implement these solutions. You will develop your skills to become a subject matter expert on testing solutions and work closely with our contract manufacturers, suppliers, Quality, Hardware Engineering and Customer Operations teams. You will be accountable to deliver your solutions in support of manufacturing and repair verification, troubleshooting, and diagnosis of Symbotic products.  

 

What we do  

The Test Engineering Manager is part of the Repair and Test Operations team at our Service Center of Excellence (SCE). The SCE is responsible for service, repair, testing, evaluation, and field support.  They manage repairs of mobile robots and electromechanical subassemblies at the Symbotic Wilmington location.  They primarily focus on supporting repair and test of mobile robots to support customer service requirements.  The Repair and Test Operations team collaborates closely with other departments to support repair and test needs and to continuously improve quality and reliability of the products.    

 

What you’ll do 

Lead Symbotic Service Center Test projects for mobile robot product lines. 

Supervise a team of 5-7 test technicians and contractors conducting hands-on mobile robot testing. 

Validate the test fixtures, stimulus, and automated software to meet test requirements across multiple manufacturing locations. 

Author comprehensive repair test specifications to guide test validation efforts in collaboration with engineer team. 

Develop procedures, training plans and debug decision trees for manufacturing test technicians. 

Collect and analyze product performance data to refine test criteria and improve test methods. 

Participate in root cause analysis to address customer performance issues or warranty claims. 

Work cross functionally to identify and resolve systemic design and manufacturing issues. Be an escalation point for troubleshooting and repairing non-conforming products. 

Travel to customer sites for on-site support, 25% of the time. 

  

What you’ll need  

BS in Robotics, Electrical, Electromechanical, or other related Engineering discipline. 

Minimum of 4 years of experience with testing and troubleshooting of complex electromechanical assemblies or machine design and implementation. 

3+ years as a manager or in a lead position of small groups. 

Experience with embedded systems, electrical control theories, motors, sensors, vision systems and/or communications protocols (CAN Bus, Ethernet, etc.) 

Demonstrated software proficiency required in Linux, Windows, Python, Shell/Bash, etc. 

Good communication and interpersonal skills; able to effectively present technical information to management and suppliers. 

Self-motivated, highly organized, and able to handle multiple tasks with nominal direction. 

Experience in Six Sigma tools, lean manufacturing principles and Production health and performance metrics and methodologies. 

Experience with ERP applications such as SAP or Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) preferred. 

Able to lift 60 pounds and can stand for extended periods of time. 

Possess an understanding of diverse types of mechanical and/or electrical test equipment. 

Ability to manage multiple tasks. 

Demonstrates initiative and is self-motivated. 

Hands-on skill set required; ready to learn, absorb, and utilize information in a demanding environment. 

 

Our Environment 

Up to 25% of travel may be required. Employees must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations. 

The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis.
