Required Education and Experience: + Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience + Five years’ experience in progressively responsible positions including supervisory experience Required Licenses and Certifications: + Valid vehicle driver license and good driving record. + Must be able to obtain State of Texas class "B" vehicle operator's license (Commercial driver License with passenger endorsement and air brakes endorsement) within 60 days of employment. + Must obtain State of Texas Vehicle Inspections license within 60 days of employment. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: + Demonstrated leadership ability; ability to identify work priorities; advanced skill in oral and written communication; ability to work effectively under pressure and to function without perceivable supervision; ability to accomplish objectives through the development and utilization of personnel; ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Preferred Qualifications: + Eight years management and supervisory experience. + State of Texas B vehicle operator’s license with Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and Passenger endorsement. + Valid Texas State Inspections license. Other Requirements and Factors: + This position will be covered by DOT regulations and be in a random drug and alcohol testing pool. + Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays with little or no notice or as job requires. + Must be able to climb stairs. Ability to work in hot and cold weather conditions. Ability to stand for extended periods of time. Ability to lift and/or move moderate to heavy objects. + This position is security sensitive. + This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules, and procedures. + All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements. Responsibilities: + MANAGEMENT: Responsible for all phases of supervision and management of the maintenance unit to include: Maintenance and repair of the Transit Bus fleet. Maintenance and repair of the Fleet Vehicles. Maintenance and repair of the heavy equipment. Maintenance and repair of small engines. Coordinate with Fleet Manager the Preventative Maintenance Scheduling Ordering and maintaining inventory of parts, fluids and liquids for the above stated fleets. + SUPERVISION: Responsible for interviewing, selecting, hiring, orienting, training, motivating and retaining a staff of direct reports capable of meeting current and projected staffing needs for the unit. Plans, schedules and monitors work assignments of direct reports. Provides employees with operational feedback. Responsible for preparing and conducting probationary reviews, annual evaluations, disciplinary actions and terminations of employees. Responsible for ensuring that direct reports and unit supervisors assigned within the unit carry out these same functions for those reporting to them. + FISCAL ADMINISTRATION: Responsible for the unit s budget. Responsible for maintaining audit controls within the unit. Oversee inventory reports and records retention for the unit. Serve as the property accountability officer for the unit. Responsible for creating and maintaining a positive work environment focused on customer service and dedicated to continuous improvement. Conduct long range planning activities, establish required service levels and anticipate labor requirements. Assist in the formulation, interpretation and implementation of departmental and unit goals, objectives and policies to insure delivery of quality customer services. Serve on departmental and university committees and represents the department at various state and national associations. Represent the department at various meetings on campus. Promote safety to assure that the unit follows policies and procedures. + VEHICLE MAINTENANCE: Supervise staff and assure quality of mechanics work by properly diagnosing problems and offering technical solutions. Assist Vehicle Shop Supervisors to determine if vehicle repairs should be handled in house or outsourced. + ADMINISTRATION: Manage and oversee contracts with multiple vendors for goods, services and equipment regularly procured to support the maintenance unit. Provide financial oversight to supervisors in the unit when reconciling payment card statements and to ensure they are completed in a timely manner. Why Texas A&M University?
