With the advent of Software Defined Vehicle architectures and new wireless technologies across the globe, the capacity to remotely implement new services, offer real-time data collection, provide remote software updates, and intelligently interconnect with cloud-based backend infrastructure requires General Motors to be a worldwide leader in designing and developing Connectivity enablers in the vehicle. Key technologies such as BLE, UWB, High Performance Wi-Fi 7, NTN, and 5G 4x4 MiMo, create that fundamental link from our vehicles to the outside world.
The Role:
The Manager for Antenna Development will act as a technical leader for antenna architecture, technology, design, and development within the Connectivity hardware space to lead efforts developing/testing antenna components/modules as well as antenna technology. Manager will be responsible for mentoring and the integration and release of antenna products to global vehicle programs. This role will be tightly coupled to vehicle and product teams on future technology roadmaps and resolution of issues that arise throughout development and production. Lastly, this role will pioneer production virtualization as standard workflow in the Vehicle Development Process. This team will work on some of the General Motor’s hardest problems, building high quality, architecturally sound wireless systems that are aligned with business needs allow General Motors to continue to be a leader in offering In-Vehicle connectivity technology in the automotive industry.
What You’ll do:
Lead a team of Sr technical direct reports, fostering a culture of empowerment and accountability while crafting a fun work atmosphere and team camaraderie
Define and implement virtual and physical tools enabling antenna design and development
Stay informed of the latest wireless technology standards and lead projects to develop building blocks for future implementation
Architecture design, development, and testing of antenna components/modules
Managing CMs throughout antenna development processes
Ensure all program deliveries and dates are met for specification releases, DFMEAs, validation results, defect resolution, integration efforts, and product launch
Report to senior leaders on project status, roadblocks, and escalation requests
Support technical and regulatory discussions with supplier and supply chain resiliency teams to meet GM standards
Additional Job DescriptionRequired Skills and Experience:
Must have Antenna design experience
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, computer science, computer engineering, mechanical engineering or equivalent with extensive industry experience. Master’s degree preferred.
8+ years of experience in a technical domain, leading projects, and consistently meeting targets.
Working level knowledge of virtualization tools such as ADS, Optenni Lab, Ansys HFSS, CST and mentor graphics to guide working level development and problem solving
Hands on familiarity Vector Network Analyzer, Spectrum Analyzer, and Cell Site Simulators
Working knowledge and hands-on experience of antenna design theory such as PIFA, monopole, di-pole, and LDS antenna concepts.
Proven track record of successfully launching complex Antenna designs from initial concept, through specification, sourcing, development, validation, and mass production.
Experience in Antenna architecture, schematics, and layout design
Expertise in Antennas or Wireless Connectivity in-vehicle development process, product development, execution, systems engineering, vehicle integration, or validation.
Background in system wireless design (diversity, MIMO, etc)
Able to lead in the face of ambiguity and constantly advancing environments while allowing team members to build their own skills
High level of sociability while working independently and efficiently with other global organizations within both the technical and business communities
