Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems sector is currently hiring a Manager 2, Aerodynamics & Vehicle Performance (Section Manager) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in Melbourne, FL. This position reports to the Flight Sciences Department Manager within the Vehicle Engineering functional homeroom team.

This hands-on leadership role will manage the functional engineering activities of approximately ten engineers who are responsible for meeting aircraft Aerodynamics Performance and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) design and analysis program needs.

Approximately 20% of the role will be performing functional homeroom duties such as attending functional staff meetings, management of personnel (performance reviews, direction & coaching), and coordination of job assignments, staffing, and recruiting.  These responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

Product integrity, process adherence, staffing, training, and tools

Process oversight, participation in the performance review process, management of personnel records and participation in corrective or disciplinary actions

Staffing responsibilities such as hiring, recruiting of personnel and working to ensure that engineers with the appropriate skills and experience are deployed

Managing training opportunities and budget allocations, as well as participation in tool, process, and metric initiatives is required

Team engagement is a key focus as is mentoring and providing career guidance and coaching

The remaining time will be spent performing IPT engineering tasks related to Aerodynamics, Performance, and/or CFD, which will comprise approximately 80% of the statement of work.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science degree in a related Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline AND 9 years of professional/military experience related to aerospace engineering; OR a Master’s degree in a related STEM discipline and 7 years of professional/military experience related to aerospace engineering

Familiarity with aircraft performance, aerodynamic, or CFD analysis on fixed wing platforms

Must have an active, in-scope DoD Secret clearance (or higher) (granted or renewed within the last 6 years or under continuous evaluation)

Must be able to attain and maintain Special Access Program clearance (SAP/PAR)

Preferred Qualifications:

Current SAP/PAR clearance

Demonstrated ability to lead an engineering or cross-functional team

Experience giving technical leadership and guidance to Flight Sciences discipline areas

Graduate level degree with concentration in aerodynamics, performance, stability and control and/or air breathing propulsion

Experience conducting Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis on aircrafts in subsonic, transonic, and supersonic flight conditions

Experience in conducting aircraft performance analysis including mission performance, turn performance, and kinematic maneuvering

Understanding of air vehicle force and moment accounting systems

MATLAB experience

Experience in Flight Sciences processes and products throughout the program life cycle

Flight test support experience and aerodynamic database updates

Familiarity with MIL-STD-3013, MIL-STD-1797 and MIL-HDBK-516

Salary Range: $135,100.00 - $202,700.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
