Manager Academic Financial Analysis

Summary: The Manager, Academic Financial Analysis will assist in managing current Faculty Physicians/SOM funding of professional clinical expenses provided by the UNC CH School of Medicine (SOM), and the educational allocation for teaching MD students and to improve the financial performance of the professional clinical practice at UNC-CH. Responsibilities: Financial Analysis & Modeling •Designs and creates analytical models to ensure achievement of objectives and exercises independent judgment in model design and development; Designs models to demonstrate impact of changes and proposes strategic alternatives to departmental leadership. •Projects demand for services using complex spreadsheet analysis and regression models. •Conducts complex analysis on large data sets and develops regular and ad-hoc reports and for hospital leadership to assist in the decision-making process. •Manages the design and creation of complex, dynamic financial models to facilitate decision-making by senior leadership; researches, collects, manipulates, and analyzes data. •Draws inferences, summarizes, and presents key findings to Executive Leadership of SOM and FP. •Applies to the Novant agreement and other initiatives deemed necessary by SOM and FP Executive Leadership Academic Funds Management •Assists with the School of Medicine’s academic intercompany financial processes. This includes preparing necessary files and entries at year-end to account for and accrue the School of Medicine’s transfers and due-tos/due-froms. Ensure that the intercompany process adheres to UNC's requirements for accounting for cross-entity activities. Collaborate closely with FP counterparts to ensure a unified approach to intercompany analyisis and transactions. •Provide thorough monthly analysis and reporting on funds managed by the School of Medicine. Ensure that actual SOM source balances align with expectations and budgeted amounts. Additionally, deliver year-end analysis and reporting on the Dean’s Office reserve balances. Manage the accounting and financial analysis of designated reserve accounts. •Oversee the processes and reports required to support the School of Medicine’s Academic Accountability Metrics. Conduct departmental analysis prior to meetings with departments and inform Executive Leadership when departments do not meet established standards. Budgeting •Oversees the preparation of the Novant budget in coordination with Executive Leadership. Specific area of focus will be forecasting revenues and expenses and facilitating the evaluation/inclusion of proposed business plans in the budgets. •Budget liaison for Novant committees and interfaces with committees surrounding budget model. Project Management • Ensures financial and operational planning and analysis projects are conducted credibly, and that recommendations and reports are accurate and timely. • Applies to the Novant agreement and other projects deemed necessary by SOM and FP Executive Leadership. • Provide projections, budgeting, and growth models for future years; Ensures accuracy of the model and acts as liaison between SOM and UNC Health. Strategy Development and Execution • Contributes to the development of financial and operational strategies for the Novant agreement, and other initiatives deemed necessary by SOM and FP Executive Leadership that aligns with the organization's overall vision and its current and long-term business objectives Manage Senior Business Analyst(s) • Effectively recruits, selects, hires, coaches, and uses appropriate corrective actions with staff in accordance with UNC HCS policies and procedures. Creates an environment conducive to retaining staff. Provides staff with accurate annual performance feedback and the opportunity to set developmental goals. Implements strategies to improve employee satisfaction inclusive of strategies to involve employees in decision making. **Other Information** **Education Requirements:** ● Bachelor’s degree.
