The U.S. Banking Controllership team within American Express is responsible for overseeing and managing the accounting activities primarily for American Express National Bank (“AENB”) – an entity which comprises a significant portion of the American Express business. Broadly, the Controllership team ensures the integrity of the Bank’s financial results in accordance with U.S. GAAP, provides an effective control environment over financial reporting, works to eliminate controllable financial risk, and supports growth in the business while balancing control and compliance. We work extensively with other Controllership colleagues and subject matter experts, U.S. Banking team and leaders, finance & business partners and the General Counsel’s Office. How will you make an impact in this role?
The Manager in AENB New Products Accounting will report directly to the Director of New Products. The New Products Accounting team partners with the various business development teams providing end-to-end change management support from a controllership, finance, and regulatory perspective.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Manage end-to-end change management processes for AENB Controllership to enable and support business growth Establish accounting and reporting requirements in all stages of product development including process enhancements, control requirements and automation needs Ensure proper accounting and control documentation including set-up of ledgers, assessment of intercompany impacts, and design & documentation of operational accounting processes Provide technical accounting research and guidance in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles Support the development of strong working relationships and communication with key business partners and senior leadersMinimum Qualifications
5+ years of experience in Accounting / Auditing / Financial Reporting Strong technical understanding of U.S. GAAP, SEC, regulatory reporting, and accounting guidelines Strong organization skills and a proactive working style Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to work independently managing multiple priorities, driving projects, and work with tight deadlines Ability to effectively interact with all levels and stakeholders of an organization Ability to understand a Company’s businesses, processes, and unique financial reporting systems and operations Ability to influence decisions with limited authority and manage expectations with business partners Demonstrate the willingness to take initiative and act decisivelyEducation Requirements:
Undergraduate degree in AccountingPreferred Qualifications
Masters of Accounting or MBA and/or CPA Project management experience Experience working in public accounting and/or financial servicesSalary Range: $80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
