Manager - EHS

Position Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Opportunity for a self-starter who enjoys working independently and being part of a fast-paced EHS compliance team to provide development, implementation, management and regulatory support of Kinder Morgan’s Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) compliance systems. Manage multiple staff and contractors with compliance, training, and Environmental Management System (EMS) responsibilities.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for developing, managing and assisting in the implementation of EHS compliance systems.

Interact with and present effectively to senior managers and, customers.Responsible for troubleshooting and problem solving issues with EHS compliance applications.Work closely with information technology (IT) department and third party vendors on EMS application development, upgrades, and projects.Work with field locations, users, vendors, and KM IT department to identify solutions and responses to issues in support of compliance software. Responsible for supervision of EHS Compliance System staffCoordinate with other departments including Human Resources, Procurement, IT, Legal and Operations to successfully complete projects.Support and further develop existing automated reporting systems.Manage development and implementation of EHS key performance indicators (KPIs) on business intelligence platform.Maintain an awareness of changing business plans, organizational structure, and assets.Assist in the development and enhancement of compliance policies and procedures.Assist and or lead technical work groups to improve compliance and mitigate risk.Responsible for providing training for new assigned personnel and compliance staff on the use of compliance systems.Responsible for overall system maintenance to keep assignments and compliance requirements current.Responsible for maintenance of EHS extranet and intranet web pages.Proactively plan, organize and oversee assigned work programs.Assist and or lead other daily, weekly, and monthly duties, and special projects, as assigned.Deal with a wide variety of people and personalities with tact, courtesy and professionalism across multiple business units, including, but not limited to:  other employees, all levels of management, vendors and customers.Articulate and present ideas, proposals and results to upper management.Successfully resolve potential conflicts and foster a win-win atmosphere with internal and external customers.Accept supervision and direction and work effectively with people.Write effectively, and understand verbal and written communications, including, but not limited to, email.Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills, and listen carefully.Work under pressure and meet deadlines.Follow all internal and external policies, procedures, laws and regulations applicable to Kinder Morgan.Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and high level of job performance.Maintain a high regard for personal safety, the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.Promote the Company’s EHS philosophy and culture.Travel is required and anticipated to be 15-35% annuallyWork non-traditional hours, as needed.

Position Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

EDUCATION:

BS or BA in Engineering, Physical or Environmental Science, or related field; or in lieu of education, 10+ years of relevant experience.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS:

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).Must possess or be eligible to acquire a U.S. passport.

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Excellent written communication and verbal communication skills are necessary.Advanced proficiency level with Microsoft applications and database software, specifically including, and not limited to:  Word, Excel, Outlook, TEAMS, Power BI, and PowerPoint.Experience with reporting in Business Objects or SSRS.Experience with .NET, JavaScript, SQL Server and WMLWorking knowledge of Maximo, SPHERA HSM, Litmos LMS and internet search engines.Must be able to successfully perform multiple tasks with strict and sometimes simultaneous deadlines.Must be a team player who is able to work within a group, take direction from supervisor(s), adhere to required work schedules, exhibit excellent follow-through, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.Ability to successfully perform the required and expected duties with minimal direct supervision.Must be able to work autonomously as situation dictates.Must be customer-service oriented, and have good organizational and time management skills.Possess and consistently demonstrate well-developed organizational skills, including the ability to manage several projects simultaneously.Ability to identify, and regularly meet, expectations in an employee/employer relationship.Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job. 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Travel across a broad geographic region (multiple states) is required.  Travel by automobile or commercial aircraft is required for meetings at other corporate offices and operations facilities.  Travel is anticipated as 15-35%.Carry a company-provided cell phone and respond during working hours, and as required during non-working hours.Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets.The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Professional certifications are considered a plus.
