Position Summary:
As Manager of EU Government Relations, you will support the Senior Director of EU Government Relations to develop and manage Bentley’s relationships with policymakers at the EU and national level. Your mission will be to ensure that EU public policy supports our sustainable growth in Europe and that we remain a trusted partner to policymakers. You feel at home at the intersection of law, politics, and business, and will elevate Bentley’s participation in debates around the digitalization of infrastructure (with a primary focus on energy discussions). This is a remote role based in Brussels.
Your Day-to-Day:
Represent Bentley in emerging policy debates and regulatory developments related to the digitalization of infrastructure, including through meetings with policymakers at the EU and national level. Focus on energy infrastructure, though the role will also involve other topics (e.g. subsurface data, climate resilience, critical raw materials). Monitor “horizontal” policy topics impacting Bentley’s business, including AI and machine learning, cybersecurity, public procurement, and personal and non-personal data. Lead Bentley’s Government Relations advocacy in one key market at the EU level, likely Germany, Italy, or Spain (depending on the profile of the successful candidate). Excellent command of a relevant language is an advantage. With guidance from the Senior Director of EU Government Relations, manage and execute public policy-related projects and support Bentley’s advocacy toward policymakers. Enable and coordinate meetings with key stakeholders (external and internal) to reach set advocacy goals. Represent Bentley in relevant trade/industry associations and events and help drive Bentley’s objectives in these fora. Produce and manage government relations content and collateral for outward-facing meetings. Content shall include presentations, one-pagers, and deeper substantive papers on how Bentley’s technology is improving quality of life and making infrastructure more sustainable and resilient. Brief, collaborate with, and advise Bentley colleagues on EU policy matters as needed (e.g. Sales, Legal, Communications).
What You Bring to The Team:
Four to seven years of government relations work in Brussels, in-house or for a relevant public institution, industry group, or consultancy. Experience leading engagements with EU policymakers and executing public policy-related projects. Self-starter with the ability to understand business needs, think strategically, and develop creative and constructive policy proposals. Excellent knowledge of the EU political and legislative process and an existing network of key stakeholders in Brussels and/or at a national level. Good understanding of digital policy, in particular issues related to AI, cybersecurity, and data. The ability to effectively communicate – and advocate – for Bentley’s policy positions. Strong writing and analytical skills. Basic understanding of EU infrastructure funding programs, and willingness to deepen this knowledge. Ability to work as part of a team, with a high degree of self-awareness, integrity, and accountability. Master’s degree in law, public policy, political science, or similar. Excellent command of English and at least one other EU language. Travel required (10-15%).
