How will you make an impact in this role?

This role is within the Controllership Organization supporting the American Express (“AXP”) Global Services Group and will report directly to the Global Services Group Controller.  Global Services Group (“GSG”) is comprised of key internal and external servicing functions that deliver extraordinary customer care to Card Members, merchants, and commercial clients around the world and is home to various shared services that help to power American Express and our Colleagues including real estate and workplace experiences among many other critical services.

This individual will play a critical role in providing transaction and accounting advisory to the GSG Organization and will be the primary Controllership point of contact to the Global Servicing Network (“GSN”), Global Business Travel (“GBT”) and Global Supply Management (“GSM”) businesses and our CFO and Corporate Planning Finance partners.  GSG Controllership is a key strategic partner to these organizations by communicating, in real time, the accounting implications of the new accounting standards and providing recommendations or alternatives during the negotiation process to support the businesses in achieving optimal results.  The team also plays a critical role in supporting our Finance partners in creating CBAs, developing forecasts, and identifying risks and opportunities.  

This role will include a high level of visibility across AXP including frequent interaction with Senior Leadership and will provide many opportunities for career advancement. 

Primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Providing accounting advisory to the Global Services Group on all deal related transactions including inventory accounting, M&A transactions and contractual obligations Subject matter expert on the treatment of loan deferral accounting, purchase obligations and embedded derivatives Advising Finance partners on accounting impacts of evolving transactions Support the monthly and quarterly close processes and provide all required reporting and disclosures to External Reporting Teams Ensure compliance and documentation of internal controls and support internal and external audit requests Organize global trainings to keep business partners up to date on emerging accounting standards and AXP policies. Represent Global Services Group Controllership on internal and cross-functional projects Building and maintaining strong relationships with key Business and Finance partners including counterparts within the broader Controllership organization

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance,  5+ years of cumulative accounting or finance experience Strong ability to interpret accounting guidance per the FASB codification including the ability to form and communicate clear and concise accounting conclusions.  Ability to work autonomously and drive progress against team goals Excellent communication and relationship management skills Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

CPA / MBA preferred

Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
