Manager of Cardiology Services - Springfield Regional Medical Center

PRIMARY FUNCTION/GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Manager is responsible for coordination of the clinical activities for cardiovascular services across the continuum of care to include overall direction and management for the service line. Directs operating units including cath labs/EP and pre-post holding areas. Operational responsibility is for twenty-four/seven basis. Serves as a professional role model, mentor, clinical resource/educator for staff and all other members of the health care team. Directs and facilitates scheduling and procedural flow each day to optimize patient care and maximize resources. Develops goals and objective in collaboration with the Administrative Director, Heart & Vascular Institute to improve patient outcomes, further physician and staff satisfaction, foster operational excellence, establish strategic direction, and achieve financial performance and capital planning, and further status of being the preferred provider of cardiovascular services. Represents the Heart & Vascular Institute with internal and external customers. II. EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS: 1. A graduate of accredited school of nursing. Masters Degree preferred. 2. Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Virginia or awaiting reciprocity preferred. 3. ACLS required 4. Work requires knowledge of operation of department and nursing care techniques and methods. Possess knowledge generally acquired through three to five years of experience as a professional nurse with the progressively more responsible experience in appropriate specialty area. 5. Previous work experience in a supervisory or charge nurse position that required knowledge of financial management and personnel supervision and practice. III. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: _____1. Ability to adapt to the demands of a situation by demonstration of efficient management of operational departments. _____2. Utilizes effective communication skills to all staff and physicians. _____3. Plans staffing and daily assignments for operational areas. _____4. Represents organization by serving as a daily liaison and resource person to staff and Medical Staff. Listens and responds in appropriate and constructive manner. Refers key issues to AD, Heart & Vascular Institute or other managers as appropriate. _____5. Demonstrates knowledge and implements principles of cost containment through judicious use of human resources and supplies. _____6. Identifies the need for change in work processes. Facilitates change and supports new initiatives. Demonstrates a willingness to take risk. _____7. Participates in and makes recommendations related to operating and capital budgets. _____8. Possesses an understanding of human motivation, values and cultural diversity. Supports and facilitates others in developing goals and fulfilling their potential. Serves as mentor, role model and counsel to staff. _____9. Completes reports, evaluations and special projects in accordance with agreed time frame. Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills. _____10. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data identify each patient’s status and interest the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures. _____11. Works closely with the AD, Heart & Vascular Institute in the formulation and implementation of department policies, strategic initiatives, etc. IV. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS 1. Performs essential job functions of the Cardiac Cath Lab nurse, Holding Are Nurse, and other health care providers within the Cath lab department while working with operational leaders to coordinate the continuum of care. 2. Participates in professional development activities and is active on hospital-wide Committees as appointed by the VP, Heart & Vascular Institute 3. Responsible for appropriate staff and available for additional duties as needed. V. WORKING CONDITIONS: 1. The individual performing this job may reasonably anticipate coming into contact with human blood, body fluids, and/or other potentially infectious materials. Individuals in this position are required to exercise universal precautions, use personal protective equipment and devices, and learn the policies concerning infection control. 2. Activities are non-sedentary. Assists in lifting and moving patients. May be exposed to abusive, combative people. Must learn and apply policies regarding electrical, chemical, radiation, and back safety.
