Manager of Professional Nursing Practice & Magnet Program
**Job Purpose Statement:** Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, the Manager of Professional Nursing Practice & Magnet Program provides overall strategic leadership and oversight of professional nursing practice at UCSF Benioff Childrens Hospital Oakland (BCH Oak). This role provides leadership, direction, and management for planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the Magnet Recognition Program. Under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer, provides oversight for all activities related to program development and project management. This role leads the development and implementation of nursing practice-driven changes as driven by the hospital's strategic direction, clinical demands, or quality/regulatory requirements. Job responsibilities include nursing standards of care, including structure and process standards; oversight of the implementation of the professional practice model; collaboration with the quality improvement department; ensuring clinical practice standards reflect written standards of practice; and organizational strategic vision. He/she provides leadership and ongoing support for nursing practice through planning, implementation, and evaluation of major Department of Nursing and organization-wide programs and initiatives at BCH Oakland. Promotes an environment that fosters a shared voice in nursing practice and the exchange of ideas to continually improve nursing and patient care outcomes. Consults and collaborates with other health care professionals to coordinate the management of patient care. Serves as a resource to staff, physicians, students and others. Provides leadership on key strategic technological initiatives. Digital Platform to support Leader Rounding, Patient Experience, and Clinical Communications. **Essential Functions / Roles and Responsibilities:** · Under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer provides leadership for planning, direction, implementation, and evaluation of the Magnet Recognition Program. · Assures compliance with the timeline of established goals and objectives of Magnet-related processes. · Organizes the collection of medical center-wide data and sources of evidence for required Magnet documentation. · Manages department-wide administration, analysis, and reporting of the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators. · Manages and serves as Site Coordinator for department-wide administration and analysis and reporting of the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) and the NDNQI RN Job Satisfaction Survey. · Participates in the development and implementation of the philosophy and strategic goals of the department. · Provides innovative and strategic leadership to support excellence in clinical practice through resource deployment, nursing, and ancillary staff support, and clinical commitment to continuous quality improvement initiatives. · Coordinates recognition events such as DAISY, ZERO harm accomplishments and other recognition events for dept. · Works with nursing leaders and others to ensure evidence-based standard work at BCH Oakland that aligns with the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital and UCSF Health. · Works with nursing leaders and others to forecast changes in patient populations and proactively prepare staff. · Oversees the identification of gaps in evidence-based care and regulatory requirements and coordinates the best practices to achieve the desired standard of care. · Provides leadership and strategic direction with standards of care, care plans, nursing competencies and nursing procedures and ensures that structures and processes are in place to meet internal and external regulatory and accreditation standards. · Collaborates with the Quality and Safety Team to monitor quality initiatives and provides leadership and resources to close gaps and improve rates (reduce harms). · Collaborates with nurse managers and directors to strategically plan, implement, and evaluate innovations in care delivery models, systems, and structures. · Provides leadership and guidance on patient and family-centered initiatives and represents the Department of Nursing on selected work groups and committees to ensure alignment of nursing services. · Assists Regulatory/Quality and other departments with regulatory and external mandates to ensure compliance by clinical nurses and ancillary staff at the point of care. · Collaborates with Schools of Nursing on joint practice initiatives. · Develops managers and staff to incorporate and utilize a shared governance structure. Ensures patient care unit environments support a shared voice in nursing practice and the exchange of ideas to continually improve nursing and patient care outcomes. · Ensures that all nurses and ancillary staff across the skill acquisition continuum are provided learning and training opportunities for ongoing professional development. · Identifies and implements best practices for onboarding, and career ladder development and promotions for nurses at all levels at BCH Oakland. · Actively participates in local, regional, national, and international professional organizations. · Integrates efforts of the multidisciplinary team to provide leadership, planning and direction for BCH Oakland patient education initiatives that align across the UCSF Health Enterprise. · Assesses and provides opportunities and programming for specialty certification. · Ensures compliance with existing practice through direction and oversight of the Department of Nursing policies and procedure development and revisions process. · Manages and serves as Site Coordinator for department-wide administration and analysis and reporting of the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) and the NDNQI RN Job Satisfaction Survey · Chairs / Co Chairs / attends as assigned BCH Oakland committees related to Quality Management and Nursing Practice such as Nursing Practice Committee, Provision of Care. · Maintains current job descriptions, role expectations, and competency summaries for positions in the division. · Develops communication forums to provide an opportunity to exchange information with staff and allow the opportunity for them to voice concerns and exchange ideas for improvement work. Maintains documentation of key communication forums. · Integrates efforts of the multidisciplinary team to provide leadership, planning and direction for BCH Oakland patient education initiatives that align across UCSF Health.
