What you will do
The Fund Accounting Manager – Operations & Control manages the Fund Accounting (unit pricing) groups within Northern Trust Australia, providing leadership and guidance to subordinate Team Leads. Conducts the performance management process, identifies training and development needs, and establishes performance standards for the business unit. Makes staffing decisions, and ensures resources are available to accomplish priorities. Acts as a subject area expert and directs activities of staff. Develops and maintains specific subject expertise and advises businesses management, and relevant third parties. Provides advice to internal clients on the implications of business trends, issues, operating environment changes and firm or business unit strategy. Responsible for interacting with various business areas to determine automation needs and provide ongoing systems support. Provides leadership and guidance to staff, fostering an environment that encourages employee participation, teamwork, and communication.
The Fund Accounting Manager – Operations & Control is principal point of escalation for service delivery to our clients, and needs to develop and foster relationships with clients, external stakeholders and internal Northern Trust partners to better understand the needs of the client and articulate those needs in order to collaborate on process improvements, strengthening client satisfaction with NT’s services and other end-to-end enhancements that are dependent on the use of NT’s fund accounting data.
Major Duties include:
Manages the Fund Accounting (unit pricing) business groups. Conducts performance management and career development processes, provides input for staffing and disciplinary actions and provides hands-on training to staff Develops periodic goals, organizes the work, sets short-term priorities, monitors all activities, and ensures timely and accurate completion of the work Provides input and support to budget management process Maintains risk management and compliance programs and activities for their assigned group Operates independently; has in-depth knowledge of business unit / function
As subject area expert, provides comprehensive, in-depth consulting and leadership to team and partners at a high technical level Carries out activities that are large in scope, cross-functional and technically difficult
Role is balanced between high level operational execution and development, and execution of strategic direction of business function activities Responsible for direct interaction with different committees and/or management Strategic in developing, implementing and administering programs within functional areas Displays a balanced, cross-functional perspective, liaising with the business to improve efficiency, effectiveness and productivity Provides leadership and guidance to staff, fostering an environment that encourages employee participation, teamwork, and communication Proactively manages and monitors the risk profile of the Fund Accounting business to ensure it remains within the risk appetite of the firm
Your Knowledge/Skills:
Strong technical knowledge of Australia Fund Accounting operational processes, business controls and technical system specifics.Excellent internal and client relationship management skills.Leadership and organizational skills are required to determine the unit goals and resources needed and to assess and develop the skills of the staff.
