Position SummaryThis position is responsible for supervising and coordinating the shop and/or field function for the department. Position Duties/Responsibilities Service operations leader with accountability of all results (profitability, customer perspective, rework, quality, turnover, employee attitudes, etc.) within span of controlMaintain and coordinate the entire service function, managing the service and repair of equipment implementing and executing the functions of price, quality and turn-aroundMaintain a customer driven work area focused on price, quality, and turnaroundSchedule work and coordinate daily shop functions emphasizing what the expected time and cost goal is to complete the job. Measurement and evaluation of jobs completed on time and at a profit established.Communicate with customers, management, suppliers and technicians to assure smooth operation of the shop.Direct leads and/or technicians in their function and make plans for their future training and development, with strong emphasis on coaching.Assist in trouble shooting and repair of equipment as needed to promote and support timely repair of equipment and the coaching of technician.Manage work in process, estimates/quotes, and work order functions.Assure strong relationships with customers by timely follow-up with quotes, phone calls, questions etc.Control shop expenses in relationship to the volume of work and understand the inter-relationship of rework, variance, safety, tool expense etc. to the overall profit. The overall responsibility of establishing an exemplary group of employees who are driven to exceed expectations consistently. Communicate and practice the corporate culture. Involved with the hiring and firing, oversee the evaluation, training and development of all personnel within span of control.Meet all safety goals of the department and promote a safe work environment through good housekeeping, elimination of safety hazards, responsiveness to employee suggestions etc.Performs other related duties as assigned by management.SafetyObey all safety rules and policiesKeep shop and equipment staging area clean and free of clutterMaintain all hazardous material law II series proceduresEnsure that overhead cranes, floor jacks, compressor, welding carts, fire extinguishers, etc. are inspected and documentedEnforce all personal protective equipment rules and regulationsEnsure all safety rules and policies are enforcedHave a weekly tool box safety meeting and document it with a copy given to manager every FridayEnsure that all ANSI and DOT inspections are completed with 0 days late Supervisory Responsibilities: Ensures compliance with established corporate standards. Oversees day to day operations of the unit. Reviews and evaluates the work and performance of reporting employees. Has significant input regarding hiring and disciplining employees Position RequirementsKnowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through a high school education or the equivalent with additional training preferred through a vocational school with studies in diesel technology.5+ years’ experience in diesel technology preferably with Caterpillar, and 3 years customer service experience or the equivalent.Must have a strong work ethic and commitment to doing whatever it takes to accomplish the task at hand.Must have a strong initiative and the ability to establish goals and accomplish them in alignment with overall company objectives.Must have a strong desire to develop and coach employees, setting examples of desired behaviors.Must be able to exhibit strong company loyalty and commitment to company overall objectivesAn excellent knowledge of the product and a strong knowledge of the product market with a respect for the Caterpillar influence.The ability to uphold professionalism and ethical behavior with both internal and external customers, including personal appearance and friendly, courteous treatment of peers, subordinates and customers.Excellent data base computer skills with a strong ability to operate industry specific PC and main frame programs with a basic understanding of Microsoft Word and Excel.
