About the Role
This role is accountable for overseeing Global Corporate Affairs and Communications' (GCAC) approach to monitoring, providing insights and engaging on geopolitical issues, as well as supporting growth objectives as defined by the business with the global head of international relations and portfolio growth and other internal business partners. This will be achieved through close engagement and collaboration with colleagues in the GCAC, other sub-functions in External Affairs and other functions across BHP. It will also be responsible for supporting the Head of IRPG’s agenda on portfolio growth and GCAC’s responsibilities relating to BHP’s Risk framework.
Leading the maintenance of GCAC’s geopolitical framework (from a governance perspective). Leading the delivery IRPG’s core responsibilities under GCAC’s geopolitical framework in relation to: (1) guiding the collection and monitoring activities of other GCAC teams; (2) managing GCAC’s core dissemination processes; and (3) providing geopolitical insights on multijurisdictional issues, where relevant. Supporting the development of BHP public positions on geopolitical issues. Supporting senior leader government engagement in relation to geopolitical issues and growth business objectives. Coordinating GCAC input, and providing specialist advice, to geopolitical-related cross-functional processes (e.g., Commodity Price Protocols, Country Risk Premiums, Commodity Framework, Human Rights) and ad hoc projects. Supporting senior leader government engagement in relation to BHP’s growth agenda in Africa, the Middle East, Europe and Central Asia as well as other global markets agreed with management. Supporting the growth plans of Business Development and Minerals Exploration through the provision of geopolitical and policy analysis and due diligence support, as required. Supporting the Group Corporate Affairs and Communications Officer, the VP Corporate Affairs Global and Head of IRPG in meeting their responsibilities under BHP’s Risk Framework, particularly in relation to the governance of the Public Policy & Geopolitics Group Risk. Representing BHP in government and diplomatic engagements and through participation in industry associations and other forms of organisation memberships. About You
Significant exposure in growth markets or in jurisdictions of strategic relevance for BHP Politics, international relations, public policy or other suitable qualification Strong commercial and project economics acumen More than one linguistic capability relevant in growth markets is an advantage Understanding of human rights and community issues in context of growth agenda is expected Network with globally relevant geopolitical thinkers in resources and mining and mineral development About Our Process
