Manager-Spiritual Care - Location: WellSpan Health, Mount Gretna, PA Schedule: Full Time Schedule: Full Time - 40-hours per week 8am to 4:30pm Monday-Friday Occasional weekend Hybrid position - Mostly on-site WellSpan Philhaven General Summary Manages Spiritual Care provision to hospitals assigned. Supervises chaplains and ensures consistent coverage of spiritual care for assigned hospitals. Provides/arranges for spiritual care, counseling and guidance to patients, families, and staff and performs or arranges for religious services to meet patient needs. Collaborates with hospital staff members, and the communities they serve to provide spiritual care programs. Essential Functions: + Manages the provision of spiritual care and services to hospitals assigned. + Supervises chaplains at assigned hospitals and ensures consistent coverage. + Provides counsel and guidance to chaplains at assigned hospitals. + Initiates and implements spiritual care programs for assigned areas. + Visits or arranges for visitation of newly admitted patients, makes routine visits to patients, providing counsel and guidance as requested/needed. Cooperates with health care team in assisting patient to make personal adjustments when indicated. + Meets with patients and employees upon request for spiritual care and counseling. Arranges for group counseling and discussions when indicated. + Administers and performs religious rites such as baptism or arranges for appropriate religious leader to do so. + Evaluates patient needs for spiritual guidance and counseling and initiates or recommends individual programs and services to meet those needs. + Consults with hospital staff regarding hospital ministry. Collaborates with members of the hospital care team in identifying and resolving problems. Acts as a liaison between patient, family, and hospital staff during periods of crisis, e.g., illness, dying, lengthy or difficult surgery. + Completes medical chart documentation in general and as required in specific religious rites such as baptism. + Represents the spiritual care department for areas assigned at community functions and provides support to community initiatives related to spiritual care. + Covers for other managers across the system when needed. Common Expectations: + Recommends staffing levels, selects and assigns staff, evaluates performance, evaluates/tests competencies (as applicable), provides orientation, training and continuing education of staff, and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions. + Assists director and other managers in developing budget. + Assists director and other managers in developing department goals and objectives. + Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s). + Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in service meetings, and workshops. + Attends meetings as required. + Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
