Manager / Team Lead for Central Research Services (m/f/d)

What you`ll do

As the manager of the Central Research Services (CRS) Team, you will lead a team of experts that supports academic research efforts of SAP business units in collaboration with universities, research institutions, and industrial partners. You will also support strategy meetings with SAP Executives to define long-term directions for SAP’s academic research and to define the setup and further ramp-up of the SAP-internal PhD programs.

Your tasks will include:
•    Lead and manage a team of experts supporting SAP’s business units in publicly funded or bi-lateral collaborative academic research.
•    Take ownership of administrative and financial processes around publicly funded projects to ensure compliance with funding guidelines and maintain the necessary documentation records for project audits.
•    Build and manage relationships with internal experts from Finance & Accounting, Controlling, Legal, HR (Payroll, Total Rewards, etc.) as well as Development Operations to collaborate on matters relevant to collaborative research.
•    Oversee all financial tasks relevant to publicly funded projects, such as monthly grants accruals and forecast, calculation of hourly rates and overhead rates, and calculation of long-/short-term liabilities.
•    Prepare and follow up on academic research strategy meetings with executives 
•    Be responsible for the SAP-internal PhD programs.
•    Maintain a portfolio of collaborative research projects. 


What you bring

•    Master’s degree in Business Management or Information Technology. A PhD degree is beneficial. 
•    Multi-year experience in strategic management of research collaborations, and publicly funded and bilateral R&D projects.
•    Multi-year experience in project management, finance, controlling, and operations with a strong affinity for numbers.
•    Experience in people management.
•    High service attitude and passion for supporting business units in research collaborations,
•    Strong team player with excellent prioritization skills and a willingness to further develop the team and processes related to the administration of research collaborations.
•    Ability to work under pressure while ensuring a high level of quality.
•    Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly present complex information.
•    High proficiency in both German and English (oral and written) due to the multi-national nature of our projects.

As part of the SAP University Alliances organization, the SAP Central Research Services team supports academic and collaborative research with universities, research institutions, and industrial partners in publicly funded projects or contract research. This includes outlining academic research strategies for dedicated topics in alignment with the SAP business units, maintaining a research project portfolio, and executing financial, administrative and project management tasks.
