WDAF-TV / FOX4, the Nexstar station in Kansas City, MO, is looking for a Managing Editor to join our News team. Kansas City is the 34th TV Market, serving a population of more than 2M viewers. WDAF-TV is the legacy station in the market and #1 in the target demo, in all newscasts. The Managing Editor oversees day-to-day local content operations and programming production on all station platforms.
+ Manage and coordinate local content for all locally developed broadcasts and segments across all dayparts
+ Facilitate daily editorial meetings and oversee assignment desk
+ Collaborate with staff to plan, gather, and produce content for broadcast and digital programming with emphasis on storytelling
+ Schedule staff and handle logistics for story coverage, live content, and other departmental needs, while verifying deadlines are being met
+ Execute strategies that engage and grow audiences across all media devices
+ Responsible for successful marketing of projects and adherence to budget
+ Assist in developing news coverage strategy for the station and its website
+ Create content for broadcast and digital as needed, including writing and editing news content
+ Responds to coverage questions (phone, email, social media, etc.)
+ Works with senior station leaders to establish and reach station goals
+ Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements & Skills:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
+ Fluency in English
+ Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
+ Minimum two years’ experience in a content development role
+ Experience guiding, directing and motivating subordinates
+ Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment
+ Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
+ Ability to effectively listen to fully understand employee needs and communicate with a team to shape a solution
+ Flexibility to work any shift and all shifts, including nights and weekends
