About the Position: We are seeking an experienced and motivatedManaging Staff Accountantto lead the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) accounting team. In this role, you’ll manage a dynamic team responsible for processing over $117 million in revenue and $46 million in expenditures. As a leader in the BMV, you will play a key role in driving financial accuracy, accountability, and process improvement, while ensuring the team’s success through supportive, hands-on leadership. You will oversee a wide range of accounting activities, from budget preparation and analysis to financial reporting and forecasting and serve as a key advisor to senior leadership on financial matters. In this role, you will: + Lead and manage the accounting team, overseeing the processing of over $117 million in revenue and $46 million in expenditures. + Ensure timely and accurate reporting of revenue collections, expenditures, and budget variances, making recommendations for improvements. + Supervise the preparation of financial reports, including the GAAP report and SEFA, and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations. + Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes collaboration, accountability, and professional development. + Support senior leadership with strategic financial planning and assist with day-to-day financial operations. + Be hands-on in addressing immediate needs, ensuring that key deadlines are met and quality service is delivered consistently. + Contribute fresh ideas for process improvement, embracing technology and modernization efforts to streamline workflows and enhance service delivery. Preferences will be given to candidates who have: + Experience with accounting systems like Advantage-ME, Fortis, and Budget & Financial Management System (BFMS). + Knowledge of state government accounting principles and practices. + Strong technical skills in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications. + A demonstrated ability to lead teams, develop staff, and manage complex financial operations. Minimum Qualifications: + An eight (8) year combination of education and experience comprised of a master’s degree in business administration or closely related field and two (2) years of responsible experience in cost, cost/benefit, and financial analysis. Directly related experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
