Manual Machinist

This role is responsible for set up and operate a variety of machine tools (manual lathe, manual mill, grinder, drill presses and/or CNC Mill or CNC Lathe) to produce quality precision parts.  Modifies parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures. Capable of understanding mechanical drawings and machining of moderately complex parts. The ideal candidate is an organized self-starter with the ability to work safely, independently, efficiently, and effectively to meet or exceed the customer’s quality and delivery requirements.

Responsibilities:

Perform all duties in a safe manner. Ability to work in a team environment focusing on meeting Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost standards. Knowledgeable in the operation and setup of lathes, Bridgeport type mills, grinders, drill presses or CNC Mills or CNC Lathes to machine moderately complex parts. Uses micrometers, dial indicators, and Vernier calipers to accurately measure parts for quality checks. Read and understand mechanical blueprints of moderately complex parts: Understands machining tolerances and dimensioning. Understands machining surface finishes. Understands thread types and cutting requirements. Understands weld symbols. Understands section views. Understands fit tolerances (Slip, Size to Size, Interference, Etc.). Understands other symbols (Counterbore, Depth, Diameter, Runout, Etc.) Perform basic and advance math related to machining parts (conversions, add, subtract, multiply, divide, trig, etc.). Good understanding of various tools used in machining. Capable of specifying tools needed. Capable of training less experienced machinists on machining technics and processes.  Be able to sharpen tools. 6S of area (Sort, Straighten, Shine, Safety, Sustain). Knowledge of lifting technics to load/unload machines using forklift and/or cranes. Other duties as assigned.

Critical Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: 

3+ years of previous machining experience or equivalent knowledge Must be willing to work second shift (3 - 11 pm) Self-motivated and self-directed with strong work ethic Ability to communicate effectively Strong attention to detail and consistent work patterns Ability to multi-task and work at a fast pace Ability to work in a team Must be analytical and detail oriented Must have a positive attitude and a desire to continually improve Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to establish working relationships quickly Commitment to personal integrity and integrity of the product(s) and processes Customer focused with the ability to function with a high sense of urgency
