Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Purpose of position:

In this role you will lead and/or participate on project teams to develop new manufacturing technology for the purposes of reducing cost, increasing capacity and/or improving products while utilizing fundamental understanding.  

 

Day-to-Day responsibilities: 

• Provide engineering-level production support to manufacturing operation and actively engage in plant safety initiatives and projects.  

• Apply engineering fundamentals to improve capability, reduce costs, and maintain performance of production equipment/processes.  

• Project management and engineering development for new automation equipment related to fiber handling, measurements, and winding.  

• Solve process issues through data analysis, experimentation, and collaboration with subject matter experts.  

• Develop and maintain systems to monitor and proactively address equipment/process performance, including trend analysis and implementation plans.  

• Identify root causes of reoccurring issues, and aid in the transfer of responsibilities to MET (Mfg Excellence Teams) and Production.  

• Develop or receive new technologies to improve process capability while ensuring proper processes are followed during transfer.  

• Develop and update engineering and operations documentation.  

• Provide training for operations workforce regarding equipment or operations changes.  

• Work with multi-disciplined production teams to drive equipment/process standardization and continuous improvements.  

• Periodically support off hours calls on an established rotation and if major production issues occur on nights/weekends.  

 

Travel Requirements:  

• Minimal (less than 5%) US focused  

 

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 

 • Monday-Friday. Overtime is not uncommon and is expected at times, however the amount and duration will vary as a function of business needs. Occasional on-call responsibilities will be required.  

 

Required Education:  

• BS or MS in Electrical, Mechanical or other Engineering discipline with relevant project/technical experience  

 

Required Years and Area of Experience:  

• 1-5 years of electrical controls experience in automation/robotics/manufacturing 

 

Required Skills:  

• Experience with electrical, controls, automation systems, and/or PLC programming, with experience with ladder logic and/or robot programming  

• Strong data analysis skills  

• Ability to handle multiple tasks and issues effectively  

• Decision making and prioritization  

• Communication skills including presentations to peers and supervisors  

 

Desired Skills:  

• Experience with PI process books and statistical control

The range for this position is  $68,419.00   -  $94,077.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
