In this position…

As the Manufacturing Employee Communications Manager, you will lead a group of communications experts embedded at Ford manufacturing plants across the US and Canada to keep our manufacturing workforce informed and inspired. This group is responsible for working with local plant leadership to develop comprehensive communications plans, engaging their local communities and working with the MFG external communications team to craft hyper local media and stakeholder advocacy strategies. Our plants are consistent sources of important people stories, and you will help your team mine for those stories and elevate those that require a larger audience. You will be responsible for working with the cross functional communications team to craft employee engagement and content strategies in service of company objectives. This will include liaising with manufacturing leadership to help translate enterprise messages to apply to plant employees, ensuring deadlines are met while maintaining a consistent level of excellence in the communications work being done at plants across the board. With your leadership, the plant communications leads will keep their plant population informed, help to celebrate and recognize employees who embody the Ford OS Behaviors, deepen Ford’s connection to the local community, and mine for stories that build community and celebrate our facilities’ contributions to a successful future for Ford.

In this position…

Bachelor’s degree required in journalism, PR, Communications or related field  7-10 years minimum experience in communications, media relations or journalism, with 3-5+ years in manufacturing preferred. Two or more years leadership experience  Experience with media relations Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop/InDesign/Premiere and creativity to generate original content  Demonstrated strong writing and communication skills Demonstrated organizational and multi-taking capabilities Self-starter attitude   Personal experience with social media and an understanding of its role in business  Ongoing awareness and knowledge of local or regional events and media environment  Professional and interpersonal maturity with a proven track record of successful relationship building

What you'll do…

Lead a group of more than a dozen US and Canadian plant communications leads in creating cohesive and strategic communications strategies for reaching Ford manufacturing team members driven by plant and enterprise objectives  Manage the cascade of corporate information and milestones to communicators embedded within US and Canada manufacturing plants  Appropriately escalate plant-level communications matters, like media inquiries, within the Communications org  Guide the development and execution of multifaceted communications strategies for plants involving storytelling, workforce engagement, events, signage and other methods Work in lockstep with the Manufacturing and Labor Communications team and other key communications stakeholders to tailor key messages to the manufacturing hourly and salaried teams Oversee the production of internal monthly newsletters  Monitor local social media group(s) and external digital presence, and help employees to engage across various channels  Partner with internal content team on high-level strategies on our app, Blue Oval Now Work with Community Relations and Stakeholder Advocacy teams to deepen Ford’s connection with our local plant communities by fostering relationships with local stakeholders, such as dealers, arts organizations and small businesses Manage the mining of stories coming out of the plants and elevate those requiring a larger audience Oversee the creation and care of relationships with hyperlocal media outlets Play a leadership role in partnership with the Manufacturing Internal Communications Specialist planning and executing major events at manufacturing sites including by not limited to Open Houses, #WeAreFord Days, press conferences, executive visits and more Stay connected to major company and industry news  Contribute to broader communications projects as needed  Traveling to all facilities on a regular basis is necessary
