Job Purpose

The Manufacturing Engineer I position is responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving a wide range of manual and automated battery manufacturing processes. This role works closely with the cross-functional team and interacts with customers and suppliers in a challenging environment.
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Troubleshoot and repair automated manufacturing equipment comprised of robotics, machine vision, servos, pneumatics, lasers, sensors, programmable logic controllers (PLC), human machine interface (HMI), computer networks, and various other systems.  Work independently, utilizing oftentimes incomplete documentation, to solve problems in a high-pressure manufacturing environment.   Develop and document manufacturing processes for new products, including lithium-ion batteries, lithium metal batteries and lithium thermal batteries.  This may include the procurement of off-the-shelf equipment, custom equipment, or the adaptation of existing equipment to expand the product range. Design manufacturing tooling and fixtures using SolidWorks software. Create detailed drawings so that those items may be fabricated utilizing in-house CNC milling and 3D printing equipment, or outside machining services. Create detailed work instructions and maintenance procedures for production operators utilizing Microsoft Word. Utilize continuous improvement methodologies to reduce labor, reduce machine downtime, reduce manufacturing defects, improve manufacturing throughput, and enhance safety.  Methodologies will include value stream mapping, failure mode analysis, and root cause analysis.  Solicit feedback from production operators regarding potential improvements. Collect, analyze, and share data in a presentable format to determine the effectiveness of those improvements. Support the quotation process by providing labor estimates and written proposals relating to the work required to develop and produce new products.  Other duties as assigned.
  Qualifications

•    Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing, industrial engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience. 
•    0-2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
•    Ability to work independently to solve problems outside one’s own area of expertise. 
•    Hands-on mechanical aptitude
•    Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint
•    Excellent written and verbal communication
