Manufacturing Engineer
Job Description

This position is at our Little Falls, (Wilmington), Delaware site, located midway between Baltimore and Philadelphia. There, we have 800 people inventing, designing, building and marketing products that lead the market for chemical analysis. Our products are frequently behind the headlines in the news, from environmental regulations to new drug discoveries to Homeland Security. The Gas Chromatograph Mass Spectrometer (GCMS) mechanical engineering team is looking to hire a Mechanical Engineer. This position will support instruments such as the Single Quadrupole (SQ) and Triple Quadrupole (QQQ) mass spectrometer systems. As a Manufacturing Engineer in the Gas Phase Division, your primary challenges will include the technical support, process implementation, and improvement of Agilent's instruments, sub-assemblies, and related products. You will be responsible for providing manufacturing support which includes failure analysis, assembly specification, yield enhancements, cost improvements, and tool/fixture design.

You will also work directly with the R&D engineering teams on new product introductions from the development of prototypes through pilot runs and product qualifications before releasing the product to the manufacturing team. Your responsibilities include involvement in the proposal and evaluation stage with R&D, participation in design reviews, design validation that may include completion of design; development of test processes including algorithm design, test tooling and equipment; inclusion of DFX (design for manufacturability, reliability, testability), and cost optimization in the product, process, and test components of the NPI; and training to build and troubleshoot the product once the release process is complete.


You will develop a thorough understanding of the construction, operation and testing of a mass spectrometer, related products and their related data processing systems. You will also become familiar with the assembly procedures, fixturing, and testing of the parts that make up the instruments. Working in a quality-first business environment, you will exercise judgment to recommend appropriate actions in the event of production issues.
 

Principle Duties/Responsibilities:

Provide production support for technical issues. Define, design, and set up production processes for new and current products. Define and develop assembly and instrument tests. Improve products and processes based on business goals, factory, field, and customer feedback data. Improve the quality and cost structure of existing production processes. Mentor and train engineers, technicians, and production personnel as needed. Support and implement the transition of new product introduction and manufacturing processes from prototype to full production. Work with R&D engineers to positively influence the design of new products.

Development and maintenance of process metricsTesting of new and substitute parts for productionSupport and training of production line personnelCooperative work with Production ManagersDevelopment and implementation of production test equipment and toolingTroubleshooting and resolution of instrument and sub-assembly issuesCollaborating with counterparts at Agilent's sites around the worldQualificationsBachelors and/or Masters Degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering.4+ years of relevant work experience.Experience with Siemens NX, ANSYS, and SAP is desired.Experience with FMEA, GD&T, Six Sigma, or DFX is desiredExperience scheduling and completing tasks on schedule.Demonstrated experience designing parts and specifying tolerances.Demonstrated record of solving difficult technical problems in a multi-disciplined (i.e. chemical, mechanical, electrical) product environment.Understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals, (statics, dynamics, material property, heat transfer, etc).Experience with 3D modeling and CAD packages.Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.Ability to interpret engineering drawings.Ability to communicate needs, plans and achievements at all levels of a corporate organization.Demonstrated ability to set priorities and meet commitments.Ability to simultaneously participate in multiple issues as they arise in a manufacturing environment.Willingness to work in a hands-on environment.Willingness to take on new challenges and learn from the experience of coworkers.Project coordination and management skills.

The full-time equivalent pay range for this position is $97,920.00 - $153,000.00/yr plus eligibility for bonus, stock and benefits. Our pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
