Manufacturing Engineer
FULL TIME POSITION AVAILABE IN LEWISTON MAINE. FULL BENEFIT PACKAGE AND COMPANY 401(K) MATCH. Elmet Technologies is actively seeking an experienced and dynamic, technically oriented engineer to provide process and equipment expertise in key manufacturing departments.  This position is accountable for effective production, continuous improvement, and new product development within a manufacturing area.  The successful candidate will be able to communicate with all levels of the organization in addition to demonstrating a strong level of commitment and drive toward delivering consistent, high-quality, and timely results. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES + Technical owner of all assigned equipment and processes. + Ensures that process specifications, work instructions, equipment controls, and monitoring are in place, working and properly communicated. + Tracks, monitors, and audits product and process results to ensure desired material properties, quality levels, and manufacturability are achieved. + Work with development engineers to create robust operational processes for new products, materials, and alloys. + Support the planning and production management functions in optimal scheduling and usage of all key equipment. + Drive strategic planning and capital requirements to proactively identify and develop process capability and capacity to meet business growth objectives. + Identify opportunities and implement changes to improve products/processes or reduce costs using knowledge of manufacturing processes, tooling and production equipment, quality control standards, and product design or materials.  + Lay out and manage the installation and integration of manufacturing equipment and processes. + Apply continuous improvement methods such as lean manufacturing to enhance manufacturing quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. + Determine root causes of failures using mathematical and analytical methods and recommend changes in designs, tolerances, or processing methods. + Interact with Supply Chain Management, Finance, and Production departments to make decisions regarding rework/repair of damaged materials or purchase of new materials. + Prepare manufacturing proposals and estimates for new products including tooling cost requirements and manufacturing resources. + Monitor and improve safety in manufacturing operations by addressing ergonomic and other safety concerns. + Hands-on equipment trouble shooting and process improvements. Work with maintenance technicians to trouble shoot and resolve equipment issues. + Lead and manage various projects and produce positive, on-time results. + Create applicable, detailed work instructions and manufacturing process documents that ensure safe and successful process execution. + Support the factory floor by providing technical expertise, how to information, and hands-on problem analysis/solutions to operators and technicians. + Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS + BS Degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering. + Due to Department of Defense contract work must meet ITAR hiring requirements (US citizen, permanent resident or refugee/asylee). + Experience in a manufacturing setting required. + Must be a self-starter able to work with a minimum of supervision. + Strong planning and time management skills. + Solid project management skills; must be detail oriented. + Sound analytical and problem-solving skills, with an emphasis on a “hands on” approach. + Exposure and experience with Lean Manufacturing principles and practices preferred. + Strong and persistent drive to deliver positive results. + Must be able to effectively communicate on all levels, discern what others are conveying and work collaboratively. SPECIAL SKILLS / EXPERIENCE DESIRED + High temperature sintering and annealing furnaces. + Hot and cold metal rolling to foil thickness. + Rod swaging; wire drawing to very small diameters. WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS + Typical office demands. + Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time (up to 8 hours). + Must be able to walk a 1/4 mile without difficulty, bend, reach and lift 10 lbs. to shoulder height. + Exposure to manufacturing conditions, which may include loud noise, variable temperatures, and dust.
