Manufacturing Engineer - Automation
Job Description

In the Diagnostics and Genomics Group (DGG), our Manufacturing Engineering team collaborates closely with other functions in the Order Fulfillment and Supply Chain (OFS) to support the production of highly regulated medical devices that are critical for helping physicians select therapies for their patients. As a member of our growing engineering team, you will play a key role in supporting production equipment and integrating advanced automation technologies, including PLC programming and Machine Learning (ML)/AI applications. This is a hands-on role offering the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to product quality and efficiency while advancing our digital transformation initiatives.

Responsibilities:

Program, troubleshoot, and maintain PLCs, HMIs, and automated systems to ensure optimal performance and resolve equipment issues in a timely manner.

Collaborate on integrating production equipment into the MES (Manufacturing Execution System) to enable real-time monitoring, data collection, and digital workflows.

Implement AI/ML-driven solutions to enhance engineering processes, support predictive maintenance, and improve overall efficiency.

Contribute to the design, procurement, and integration of new automated systems for filling, labeling, and packaging.

Perform and document equipment validation activities (IQ/OQ/PQ) to meet FDA and regulatory requirements.

Analyze equipment failures to identify root causes and develop corrective and preventive actions.

Support continuous improvement efforts by applying statistical tools, data analysis, and digital technologies to optimize manufacturing processes.

Work closely with cross-functional teams, including QA and operations, to ensure regulatory compliance and equipment reliability while advancing digital transformation initiatives.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Robotics, Automation, or another relevant Engineering & Technology discipline.

Generally, requires minimal to no prior relevant work experience

Experience with PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Omron) through coursework, projects, or internships.

Familiarity with HMI programming and industrial communication protocols (e.g., OPC UA, Modbus, Ethernet/IP).

Exposure to AI/ML concepts and tools (e.g., Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch) for manufacturing applications.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a detail-oriented mindset.

Ability to work independently on technical projects and troubleshoot complex systems.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross functional teams.

Preferred Knowledge Skills & Abilities

Hands-on experience with robotic systems (e.g., Fanuc, Denso) or vision systems (e.g., Cognex).

Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, Root Cause Analysis, etc.),

Exposure to enterprise manufacturing systems like SAP, MES, or SCADA.

Basic knowledge of regulatory standards (e.g., FDA QSR, ISO 13485). Proficiency in CAD tools like SolidWorks or Siemens NX.

The full-time equivalent pay range for this position is $71,048.00 - $111,013.00/yr plus eligibility for bonus, stock and benefits. Our pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
