Manufacturing Engineer - IGT

Basic Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution. Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. This position entails access to export-controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant's ability to lawfully obtain access to such items.

Preferred Qualifications

5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job Summary

This position supports manufacturing by providing focused projects that will improve throughput, reduce inventory and reduce operating expense.  Drives reduced labor costs through cellular manufacturing and new/improved methods and equipment. 

Responsibilities include:

Follow Howmet’s Safety Regulations and work Rules Handbook along with all department specific safety requirements. Applies standard practices and techniques, adjust and correlate data recognize discrepancies in results and take corrective action. Document work and prepare 

Equipment & Fixturing

Designs and implements TPM and preventative maintenance programs. Ensures safe design and operation of all tools and equipment used by manufacturing. Selects best techniques and tools for manufacturing operations after researching options. Provides cost justification for equipment fixtures and tooling by selecting appropriate techniques and tooling. Trains operators on the proper use of new equipment and fixtures. Interacts with vendors to design and develop specifications for equipment.

Manufacturing Methods

Analyzes and improves work practice methods, ergonomics and material handling to eliminate waste and improve work efficiency. Provides input into plant layout or acts independently to improve workflow. Utilizes continuous various improvement methodologies including, 6 Sigma, SPC, IPC, COP and step-down plans.

Communications

Make presentations on various topics including cost presentations, continuous improvement and manufacturing operations. Prepares and communicates various engineering documents. Acts as liaison with part number engineers, supervision and operators. Prepares technical reports.

Internal Customer Support

Provides manufacturing support for part number engineers. Provides information, data analysis to and takes action items from QSIs. Must comply with all company attendance policies and guidelines; this includes, but is not limited to, regular attendance and occasional overtime. Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.  Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
