The job of the ME TC is to ensure the following:
that the new developed single parts can be produced according to the production technologies
all necessary Tools and single part equipment
for inhouse parts (W-parts) are being procured and released in production location (QCT)
for external parts (A-parts) are being procured (QCT by PUR)
that for FOTP all new single parts are available for C-sample build on time
the transfer of responsibility to the “ME Plant” for series
The ME TCs main partners for communication are the design department in the phases 1 to 4 and the production department in the phases 5 to 7. Therefore, it is necessary that the ME TC has his desks in close vicinity to these departments in the respective phases.
If the ME for a product resides at a production site, it is to be ensures to send him to the corresponding development location in the phases 1 to 4.
Core tasks / competences of the ME TC
Ensure Design for Manufacturing / Cost
Ensure simultaneous engineering
Tolerance consideration of components /pre-assemblies / end products
Project related capacity consideration / planning for tools, jigs and single parts
Procurement of all new tools and jigs and fixtures for internal single part production
Procurement of all new tools (A-parts)
Schedule / schedule tracking / monitoring of all means of production for the single part production (e.g. gripper hand, lacquering jigs, metallization racks)
Procurement purchase parts with PUR
Qualification of means of single part production, product and process until release
Responsible (accountable) for leading the “Part by part” process
Tasks / responsibilities in the TtM process
The Manufacturing Engineer (ME-TC)
supports the risk assessment for production and product technical topics,
prepares make-or buy decisions for the Project Manager Operations,
supports in the product dialogue assembly regarding product technical issues,
is responsible for the creation of the single part P-FMEA and the implementation of all resulting measures and optimizations,
plans, coordinates and documents single parts for creation of B and C samples,
plans the necessary capacities for the creation of first off-tool samples of single parts and assembly Groups
is responsible for the relocation of tools before SOP,
Role definition
The Manufacturing Engineer (ME-TC)
is responsible in the project from Quotation Phase to 6 months after SOP (TtM phase), represents the ME TC topics in the production team,
is responsible for all ME TC related work packages and tasks within the current “lean PEP”
creates decision papers for the Project Manager Operations,
forms an interface between design and production departments during the product qualification
responsible (accountable) for leading the “Part by part” process
