Manufacturing Engineer-Tooling
Job Description

The Machining Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the tools and fixtures used in our machining process, including creating detailed CNC programs, selecting materials, and overseeing the fabrication of machined hydraulic valve bodies to ensure efficient production of high-quality products. 

 

This position will lead both prototype and production release programs and follow parts through production meeting customer specifications and on time delivery. This role will report to the Senior Engineering Manager and work daily out of our Easley, SC facility. Relocation support can be provided.
 

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following. 

 

Perform root cause problem solving techniques to improve first pass yield and reduce scrap.  Work with vendors to source and fabricate tooling components. Manage the machining process, including quality inspections and acceptance testing. Implement tooling modifications to address production issues or improve product quality. Analyze manufacturing processes to identify areas for tooling optimization. Utilize Lean manufacturing tools will be used for productivity improvements. Develop and implement new tooling techniques to enhance production efficiency and reduce costs.  Collaborate with production teams to troubleshoot manufacturing issues related to tooling and machining. Coordinate with Quality team for review of part inspections including dispositions. Work with Procurement team in qualifying suppliers. Attend Change Management meetings and facilitate approved changes where applicable Create detailed documentation including drawings, specifications, and work instructions.  Maintain tooling and machine records including preventative maintenance. Provide trouble shooting and related shop support using advanced quality tools. Carry out special projects directed toward overcoming manufacturing problems considering lean manufacturing concepts.   Prepare standard work, process flow diagrams, time studies, process FMEAs, capability studies and control plans in support of new product releases, cost reductions and product modifications. Use interdisciplinary tools such 8D Problem Solving and Value Stream Mapping to find cost effective solutions. Specify and develop the tooling and/or equipment necessary to manufacture a product with respect to the cost, quality, and ease of manufacturing objectives. Responsible for determining the necessary sequence of operations needed to meet manufacturing, quality and cost requirements.  Identify capital equipment requirements and prepares Return of Investment (ROI) calculations to justify expenditures. Manages capital investment projects.

Must have a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Bachelor Science in Industrial Engineering, or degree in related field of study Have 5 years’ plus experience in Manufacturing Engineering in a manufacturing environment with 4 axis horizontal machines Experience with CAM software (ideally Unigraphics NX CAM and Autodesk FeatureCAM) Knowledge and experience with automation (robotics, PLC’s, torque tools) Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams  Comprehensive understanding of finance, capital appropriation, and budgeting practices Employee Benefits
