Job Description:
L3Harris is searching for a Rocket Motor and Propulsion Manufacturing Fellow to join the Aerojet Rocketdyne Segement's team. As a Fellow, the perfect candidate will demonstrate the multi-disciplinary expertise, theoretical knowledge, and ingenuity to establish industry-leading technical direction ensuring company and program success. Fellows additionally support sector / segment level leadership and business area growth through strategic technical roadmap development and innovation working with cross-functional operations and engineering teams to quickly provide solutions for our customers. This position provides advanced concept development, design, implementation, test, and evaluation of Propulsion Systems. The position can include some time in office, more time at manufacturing sites and infrequent flight test environments depending on program/task.
Essential Functions:
Recognized as internal/external subject-matter-expert and thought leader with deep and substantive technical expertise.
Develops strategic technical vision and innovation roadmaps with corporate segment/sector/division leadership, program business areas, driving business area growth.
Lead proposal development with technical solutions/maturation, risk evaluation/mitigation and costing.
Demonstrated communication excellence with internal and external customers to share technical direction and influence new concepts, practices, and approaches.
Develop dynamic vehicle aerodynamic, propulsion, and hardware/sensor models, and definition of manufacturing requirements to realize those capabilities at scale.
Responsible for establishing the direction for new technical processes, systems, solutions, and products using significant conceptualization, reason, and interpretation considering both near and long-term implications.
Leads root-cause failure investigation, identification, and resolution studies and communicates resulting issues, solution, and risk, in time-bound fashion.
Other duties as assigned.
Business travel up to 25% to other L3Harris facilities and test sites.
Qualifications:
20+ years of demonstrated technical expertise in a most of the GNC disciplines including guidance, navigation, control theory, target state estimation, vehicle modeling and requirements analysis.
20+ years of demonstrated experience integrating and testing a variety of mission sensors (radar, optical, etc.) used for vehicle stabilization, path planning, navigation, and feedback control.
20+ years of demonstrated experience in technical development on a variety of vehicle types and operating regimes (rotorcraft, missile, sub/super/hypersonic).
Active US Secret Security Clearance with current 5 year update. Must be able to obtain and maintain additional clearances as required.
Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Mathematics.
Demonstrated manufacturing experience tied to early conceptual and design phases. Employing or defining manufacturing capabilities congruent with performance and life cycle requirements for propulsion systems.
Demonstrated technical Program Development leadership including planning and creation of development roadmaps, program execution, delegation of tasks, and verifying engineering rigor.
Demonstrated problem solving and decision making/reasoning experience.
Demonstrated business pursuit and capture experience with proposal/white paper support including technical and cost volume development.
Demonstrated mentorship and career development support.
Preferred Additional Skills:
MS or PhD in Engineering, Mathematics or Physics preferred.Published in industry journals, industry recognition, and/or patent awards.
Proficient with Microsoft Office products.
Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, & presentation) including the ability to translate technical vision, direction, tasking, and status to multi-disciplinary teams and internal/external customers.
Excellent people skills, with experience leading and collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team environment.
