Job Description

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Manufacturing Engineering Manager is responsible for providing engineering support to Manufacturing. Manages activities and allocates resources within the Manufacturing Engineering area to ensure complete engineering support is provided to meet department /plant and divisional goals. Manages the monitoring of the molding and assembly equipment, machines, and tools. Troubleshoots equipment downtime issues, processes out of control producing non-conforming products, low yields or product quality issues. Identifies areas and means to improve molding and assembly manufacturing processes / equipment and product quality on existing product and processes. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:  

Engineering support for the molding and assembly manufacturing processes and equipment. Plan any pre-Production Engineering activities necessary to support the monthly/quarterly production plan. Manage the Toolbox projects and maintain a strong toolbox pipeline. Co-ordinate/plan and execute the activities with Production / Quality and Maintenance relevant to Conversion Cost Reductions, Scrap Reduction and Material Cost Savings. Partners with Quality and Production to ensure that products are produced in conformance with production specification. Overviews and co-ordinates the Molding Processes/Modifications/Upgrades. Overviews and co-ordinates the Automation Processes /Modifications/Upgrades. Support the Quality department in equipment and process validation activities. Proactively leads CAPEX/Project Management initiatives.  Manage staff in a manner that promotes a high standard of employee performance in a positive and supportive work environment. Equipment/Facility Capacity Expansion Planning. Supports the introduction of automated manufacturing cells in molding and assembly. Support the divisional engineering group when assistance is required. 

 

QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Manufacturing, Plastics, Biomedical or Mechanical) required. A minimum of 5+ years related work experience in a Manufacturing Engineering role in a high-volume manufacturing environment required. (Experience with medical device manufacturing strongly preferred). Experience in Injection Molding and Automation processes are critical to this role.  Strong exposure to Project Management and Physical set up of systems is highly desirable. Provides Engineering and technical support with respect to product design, specifications and functionality requirements. Ability to train and coach others from a technical perspective. Previous experience with managing people required.
