Manufacturing engineering manager

Job Summary

 

As the Manufacturing Engineering Manager for our Carlisle Architectural Metals (CAM) manufacturing facility in Waukesha, WI, you will be responsible for the overall manufacturing processes. You will work closely with the Senior Manager, Operations, on strategic planning for the manufacturing, with a focus on optimizing quality, delivery and cost-effectiveness through strategic initiatives and team leadership.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Leadership Capabilities: Ability to work and be successful with minimal task definition and supervision throughout the execution of assignments. Responsible for the organization of projects and tasks, the coordination of workflow, supervision of personnel, and delegation of assignments to others.

 

Strategic Planning: Ability to collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to develop short and long-term strategies that will enhance productivity, efficiency, and profitability of operations.

 

Process Development and Improvement: Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for both automated and manual manufacturing processes that are scalable, sustainable, efficient, and aligned with industry best practices.

 

Team Building: Recruit, train, and manage a high-performing team. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and innovation within the team focused on SQDC principles. Specific duties include management of employee development/training, plant scheduling, recruiting/termination, customer contact, root cause analysis, financial tracking, safety implementation, supplier evaluation, and process improvement.

 

Operational Oversight: Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of the following functional areas: quality engineering, manufacturing engineering, scheduling, and custom order processing. Work daily with Production to implement improvements to enhance productivity, reduce downtime, and optimize resource utilization. Develop and deliver regular progress reporting and maintain staff productivity measures for internal assessment of performance and ongoing improvement opportunities.

 

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with all critical stakeholders, including human resources, engineering, maintenance, and supply chain, to ensure seamless integration of manufacturing processes and resolve operational challenges.

 

Compliance & Safety: Ensure all operations comply with relevant safety regulations, industry standards, and Carlisle Company safety policies. Promote a safe working environment through regular safety audits and training.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Strong project management skills. Proven experience in team leadership, recruitment, and development. Excellent critical thinking skills and an initiative-taking approach to optimizing manufacturing processes. Proficiency in manufacturing execution systems (MES), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, and relevant software tools. Experience with design of sheet metal components using CAD software Experience with both Quality and Manufacturing Engineering in a fabrication environment Experience with production scheduling using routings, standard times, and capacity planning. Persuasive communication and people skills for effective cross-functional collaboration and ability to communicate with all stakeholders including external. Expertise in lean manufacturing principles and deep understanding of manufacturing processes. Strong adaptability, decision making, and resource management skills and abilities.

 

Education and Experience:

 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, supply chain, manufacturing engineering, operations management, or a related field; advanced degree or MBA preferred.

 

Experience: Minimum of 8 years of experience in manufacturing operations management, with a strong background in automated and robotics-driven environments.

 

Working Conditions:

 

Location/Hours: You will work full-time during standard business hours and extended based on production schedules or deadlines. Role may require overtime including nights and weekends. May be on call for emergencies or critical issues that arise outside normal working hours.

 

Noise/Climate/Safety: Adherence to safety protocols is critical. Manufacturing can be noisy due to machinery and equipment. May need to use hearing protection or other items to mitigate exposures.
