Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Coherent Laser Systems and Measurement (LSM) designs and manufactures precision solid state lasers for scientific, medical, instrumentation and vision markets, as well as calibrated laser measurement systems for a wide variety of laser type and power applications. The business provides critical technology to thousands of global customers with a wide range of products specifically tailored to satisfy demanding customer requirements. LSM is located just minutes South of Portland, Oregon and enjoys spectacular Pacific Northwest weather and activity opportunities.
As the Manufacturing Manager, you will be responsible for Coherent’s Laser Systems and Measurement Business unit manufacturing and depot repair services at our Wilsonville, OR facility. This responsibility will include leading and managing multiple value streams in a high mix production environment. You will also lead and manage the customer returns service team along with the actual repairs work that is performed within the shared production value streams. You will represent all of manufacturing and depot repair within the business unit, interacting with extended senior management on at least a quarterly basis. This position reports directly to the Director of Operations for the business unit.
Key Responsibilities
Lead a team of direct reports of < 5 supervisors, with an extended team of ~50 persons Maintain and improve our safe and secure working environment, including direct interaction with site Safety Committee and Laser Safety Committee Responsible for the overall production, quality and timely delivery of products and repairs within the scope of our Wilsonville factory (e.g. on time delivery, service turn around time, lead time expectations, cost targets) Manage plans and activities to increase manufacturing effectiveness through people, process, and equipment Collaborate with team, supervisors, and managers to establish strategic plans and objectives Regular interaction with other departments to ensure factory performance metrics Lead and support continuous improvement activities within Operations to improve the employee experience as well as increase effectiveness Lead and encourage training and development of direct reports as well as extended staffKey Competencies

B.S. degree or equivalent in a related technical field (i.e. photonics, electronics, optics, physics, etc) 5 years of Manufacturing Management, or equivalent, experience in a high mix environment. Familiarity and experience participating in, contributing to, and leading Continuous Improvement activities utilizing techniques including formal problem solving, team building, Lean Manufacturing Formal communication and presentation skills. Strong ability to format data into concise, complete, and meaningful information and commitments Supervisory, coaching and people development experience Direct experience with Oracle ERP or equivalent. Ability to plan and track resource utilization for capacity planningWorking Conditions
