Manufacturing Manager - Heavy Fabrication

Job Overview

The Manufacturing Manager oversees the production of shovels and drills, ensuring they are built to customer specifications in a custom engineering and large job shop manufacturing environment. This role directs distinct manufacturing units, including a structural shop, machining shop, and assembly floor. The position is integral in maintaining efficient production processes, quality standards, and cost guidelines.

Key Job Responsibilities Direct all manufacturing activities to meet production schedules, quality standards, and cost guidelines. Oversee the preparation of materials for welding, stress relieving, precision machining of parts, and final assembly of large capital mining equipment. Provide direction on facility loading and subcontracting. Review reports on past due hours, productivity, and future load/output by facility. Address issues related to missing material, rejections, and incorrect material. Support planners on subcontract decisions and facility loading. Develop and maintain the total manufacturing budget with input from subordinate managers. Ensure adherence to plant safety standards and foster a climate of team building and trust. Serve as a resource in labor negotiations and development of plant rules and policies. Initiate and support the introduction of new technology in the manufacturing process. Evaluate and recommend capital plans and approve equipment purchases. Drive operational excellence initiatives and cost savings. Provide support for the on-time completion and delivery of repair orders. Offer continuous training to coordinators on systems and operational processes. Qualifications/Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, or a related field. Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing management role. Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, safety standards, and quality control. Experience with labor negotiations and employee relations. Proven track record of implementing cost-saving measures and operational improvements. Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Physical Requirements Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and moving throughout the facility. Capability to bend, stoop, and reach to perform tasks. Comfortable working in varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, and noise. Cognitive Skills Ability to comprehend technical documents and calculate large equations. Strong problem-solving skills. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and manage priorities effectively. Physical presence at work needed approximately 95% of the time. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with managers, peers, and subordinates. Capacity to manage multiple concurrent tasks and meet deadlines. Understanding of how emotions and communications are perceived by others and ability to modify behavior to be an effective team member. Ability to motivate peers and subordinates to achieve targeted performance metrics.
