Temporary / Fixed Term Position – Manufacturing Mechanic Technician – 54I – Clinical Supply Operations

Shift: 7:00 AM – 3:30PM 

Site: NBR    

Bldg # 50, 81 and providing back up support Bldg. 115 (excluded)

Rate: $47.74 / hour

JOB FUNCTION: 

Diagnoses, troubleshoots, repairs, maintains, upgrades and installs all mechanical equipment and systems related to NBR R&D Manufacturing facilities. Demonstrates knowledge of mechanical systems, utilities & process equipment required to operate and maintain facilities associated with the manufacture and delivery of active pharmaceutical ingredients, drug product intermediates, and drug product. Applies knowledge and experience in plumbing, pipefitting, and millwright activities associated with pharmaceutical related mechanical systems,
utilities, and process equipment. This includes, but is not
limited to, repairs & maintenance of all types of process equipment (glass-lined vessels, dryers (conical & filter), filters, centrifuges), fluid bed processers, high shear granulators, lyophilizers, autoclaves, water for injection stills, waste neutralization systems pumps, motors, heat exchangers, specialty heat transfer systems, bulk solvent storage, coils, fans, strainers, traps, boilers, chillers, vacuum systems, etc.Maintains knowledge of and compliance to all applicable codes
and regulations as required. Obtains and keeps current all required licensing and certifications associated with the job.Possesses experience and training in reactive, preventive, and predictive maintenance of all mechanical, millwright, welding and plumbing/pipefitting areas with journeyman status in at least one. Those with Journeyman status shall be considered to retain Journeyman status within their trade. Performs all associated work required to complete job assignment. This work includes, but is not limited to: mechanical, HVAC/R, plumbing, cutting, welding, insulating, rigging, hoisting machining and mobile equipment repair. Reads and interprets blue prints, P&IDs, and drawings. Works with minimal supervision. Plans and installs all types of fluid handling piping, equipment and systems. Properly and effectively uses new technologies in Predictive Maintenance equipment and monitoring, such as infrared thermography, vibration analysis, lubrication analysis, ultrasonics, laser alignment, etc.Demonstrates proficiency in jacket utilities (i.e.: Syltherm,D Glycol), steam, hot water, vacuum, compressed air, compressed gases, specialty water systems, cleaning/sterilization equipment, etc. Assists other technicians as required.Performs all other associated minor work related to the job task being performed including, but not limited to, rigging, lamp changing, filter changing and ceiling tiles.Maintains tools, carts, vehicles and material handling equipment, as required. Documents clearly, all work performed on the CMMS system work orders.Completes all other work associated with the assignment working cooperatively with other trades.Responsibilities include maintaining documentation in and associated with the CMMS, facilities and equipment under strict compliance to OSHA, GDP, GLP, GMP, federal, state and local regulations.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: 

Two year Associate Degree in Science related to Pharmaceutical Development plus specialized (mechanical) training related to pharmaceutical processing equipment.In lieu of a two year degree, a minimum of five years’ work experience in GMP pharmaceutical manufacturing or related field will meet requirements.Proficiency in the use of computer programs/systems is essential.PD Mechanic as must maintain their skills and knowledge current with advances in the field of Pharmaceutical Development.Incumbents may have opportunity to attend internal or external training courses as approved by management.

Training will be implemented to ensure the PD Mechanics receive relevant training to facilitate the performance of their job responsibilities. Testing after training specific to an area will be an ongoing requirement. Interactive training modules will be used for training on specific competencies. If testing is not passed, the interactive learning and testing will be repeated. A pass/repeat summary of all testing on each module will be kept to assess the performance of the module.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works under direction and follows established practices in performing all duties. Makes a decision when general instructions, established methods, or clearly defined precedents indicate action to be taken, but refers unusual problems to supervisors. The position will require the employee to work with chemical, radiological and biological agents that may be hazardous to health if mishandled (including agents which may potentially affect development of the fetus). Assignments will be executed in laboratory, warehouse and process scale-up facilities interchangeably. The employee will be required to follow all safety procedures and use personal protective clothing/equipment as provided by the company where specified. Work environment may be subject to odors and fumes, dust, powders, oil, grease and noise.
