Permanent Position - Manufacturing Systems Technician - 54I - CSO
**Shift:** 7 AM - 3:30 PM EST
**Site:** NBR
**Bldg** \# 115 (excluded)
**Rate:** $47.74 / hour
**JOB FUNCTION:**
+ Operate and maintain air handling units, exhaust fans, refrigeration machinery, cold rooms, lyophilizers, and utility & mechanical systems within the NBR R&D Manufacturing facilities. Additional equipment includes, but is not limited to, vacuum, air-conditioning, cooling/ heating, ventilation, fume hoods, bio-safety cabinets, environmental growth chambers and exhaust systems required to maintain proper temperature, pressure, humidity or other such operating conditions necessary to meet the specifications of the NBR R&D Manufacturing facilities.
+ Observe and adjust related valves, switches, recorders, charts, indicators, and thermometers for control purposes. This includes troubleshooting and repair of pneumatic, electromechanical and electronic controls for all HVAC/refrigeration/heating systems. Examples include reheat valves, control valves, thermostats, freezestats, electric/pressure switches, relays, etc. Keep log of and maintain required conditions throughout assigned areas, anticipate and detect equipment failure and locate trouble or faulty equipment and make necessary adjustments, replacements, or tear down for repairs to prevent loss in areas where active pharmaceutical ingredients, drug product intermediates, and drug product may be present.
+ Overhaul and install HVAC and refrigeration related equipment as required. This may include removing and replacing refrigeration compressors which may require basic rigging of equipment and removal and reinstallation of non-asbestos containing insulation.
+ Advise and instruct others assisting in utility operations and in performing maintenance and repair work. Conduct testing and documentation for fume hoods, down flow booths, pack-out booths, and isolator certifications.
+ Maintains knowledge of and compliance to all applicable codes and regulations as required. Obtains and keeps current all required licensing and certifications associated with the job. Achieves and maintains all appropriate certifications.
+ Installs, periodically monitors, troubleshoots, maintains, repairs, and upgrades components of the building automation systems (BAS). This includes variable frequency drives, electrical circuits and controls related to HVAC/R systems.
+ Operates, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs and installs all other types of building, utility, and mechanical systems. This includes, but is not limited to, domestic water (hot & cold), compressed air, specialty water (DI, RO, USP, WFl, WFO, etc.), vacuum pumps, etc.
+ Properly and effectively uses new technologies in Predictive Maintenance equipment and monitoring, such as infrared thermography, vibration analysis, lubrication analysis, ultrasonics, laser alignment, etc. Possesses experience and training in reactive, preventive, and predictive maintenance in the areas of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration with a journeyman status. Those with Journeyman status shall be considered to retain Journeyman status within their trade. Demonstrates the ability to anticipate potential problems and take appropriate actions to maximize the condition of facility & equipment and systems.
+ Documents clearly, all work performed on the CMMS system work orders. Completes all other work associated with the assignment working cooperatively with other trades.
+ Responsibilities include maintaining documentation in and associated with the CMMS, facilities and equipment under strict compliance to OSHA, GDP, GLP, cGMP, federal, state and local regulations.
**EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS** **:**
+ High School diploma or equivalent.
+ 2 year Associates degree or successful completion of a vocational-tech program directly related to HVAC/R and/or Industrial Maintenance from an accredited technical school/college is preferred.
+ Current, valid driver's license.
+ A minimum of 4 years direct experience performing the functions within the Classification Description above working in a heavily regulated environment (e.g. OSHA, PSM, cGMP) with a strict adherence to established safety and GMP rules and regulations including management of change and mechanical integrity procedures is preferred.
+ Familiarity and experience working in hazardous locations as defined by Article 500 of the National Electrical Code and arc flash boundaries related to NFPA 70E is preferred.
+ Journeyman papers AND 4 years of mechanical experience in pharmaceutical glass/pilot plants and/or clinical supply facilities associated with the development, manufacture and delivery of active pharmaceutical ingredients, drug product intermediates, and drug products OR a minimum of 6 years of documented, equivalent experience in pharmaceutical glass/pilot plants and/or clinical supply facilities associated with the development, manufacturer and delivery of active pharmaceutical ingredients, drug product intermediates, and drug product. Comparable experience in bulk fine chemicals or petrochemical organic chemical processing in a manufacturing and/or research and development environment will be considered.
+ Must have Environmental Protection Agency certification for charging/discharging refrigerants.
+ Must have basic computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office, email, internet, CMMS)
+ Demonstrated skills in soldering pipe on HVAC/R systems.
+ Demonstrated ability to effectively troubleshoot, plan work and anticipate potential problems and take appropriate actions to maximize the facility and associated process.
+ Demonstrated ability to remove defective parts by dismantling equipment; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools.
+ Demonstrated ability to determine changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
**Working Conditions:** NBR R&D Manufacturing consists of all the Chemical Development Operations and Clinical Supply Operations facilities on the New Brunswick, NJ site. The position will require the employee to work in areas where chemical, radiological and biological agents that may be hazardous to health if mishandled (including agents which may potentially affect development of the fetus). Assignments may be executed in all NBR R&D Manufacturing facilities interchangeably. Disagreeable conditions including odors, heat, cold, noise, etc. may be experienced. In addition, candidates:
+ Must be willing and able to work rotating or steady 2nd shift, as required.
+ Must have the ability to work weekends for on-call duties on a rotation basis, as needed.
+ Must be willing and able to wear all required PPE (personal protective equipment) including protective garments and respirators.
+ Must be willing and able to work at elevated heights (e.g. elevated walkways, grating, platforms, ladders, scaffolding, etc.) and within confined spaces.
+ Ability to perform physically demanding tasks repetitively for extended periods of time (i.e. lifting (up to 35 pounds)
