Supervises, guides, and/or instructs the Compliance and Enforcement (C&E) Unit of the Coastal Resources Division's Coastal Management Section to oversee compliance with State rules and regulations for coastal marshlands, sand sharing systems/beaches and tidal waters, and supervises the work of up to two (2) full-time staff. The C&E Supervisor ensures field site visits and historical record reviews are conducted to determine compliance of projects permitted under the Coastal Marshlands and Shore Protection Acts or other authorizations issued by the Coastal Resources Division. The Supervisor investigates unauthorized/unpermitted activities occuring in coastal tidal waters, wetland and/or beach areas under the jurisdiction of the Division and negotiates fair, timely and science-based enforcement remedies. The Supervisor oversees the Marina Lease Program which involves routine field inspections, development of visual GIS-based exhibits, and annual billing and payment tracking. The Supervisor oversees the review and verification of property deeds and titles for all projects permitted by the Division, is the lead on issues involving abandonded and derelict vessels and other marine debris, and may oversee large grants and contracts for the removal of debris (>$500,000). The Supervisor oversees all Georgia Open Records Requests on behalf of the Division, participates in outreach and education activities, and collaborates with other state, local and federal agencies.
Preference may be given to applicants with:
ยท Experience in environmental regulatory permitting or enforcement.
ยท Experience working in coastal wetlands, tidal waters and/or beach environments.
ยท Experience with ARCGIS or the operation of UAV (drone) equipment.
ยท Experience working with state, federal or local governments.
ยท Experience with boating and navigation in coastal waters, including basic vessel maintenance.
Master's degree in biology or a related field from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of related experience, one year of which in a supervisory capacity. OR Bachelor's degree in biology or a related field from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of related experience, one (1) year of which in a supervisory capacity. OR two (2) years of experience required at the lower-level Marine Biologist 3, (NRP042) or position equivalent.
