THE POSITION
THE POSITION:
SALMON HARBOR MARINA
Position is for the Summer season. Work hours will vary according to department need. Position may work as much as 40 hours/week, but there is no guarantee of hours.
This position provides direct services to the public by operating and dispensing marine fuel, accurately processing payment transactions and receipt records, monitoring of fuel levels, as well as performing basic maintenance and/or clean up in marina, boat, and camping areas
Harbor employees work with and around users of the facility and emphasis is on providing positive customer service while performing day-to-day duties.
Essential functions:
+ Provide positive customer service while safely operating marine fuel pumps for customers.
+ Collect cash or credit cards payments for marine fuel sales; process appropriate transactions; prepare accurate receipts and/or revenue records; and follow all cash-handling procedures for money deposit.
+ Maintain fueling equipment and facility in a neat and clean fashion.
+ Assist with maintenance and/or repair of County marine fueling equipment if needed.
+ Routinely monitor fuel tank levels, boat launch area, RV dump station, trailer and boat storage, and any assigned camping areas.
+ Perform general grounds maintenance and restroom cleaning; restock supplies, pick up debris, transfer disposed trash, and/or general shoreline maintenance in marina areas.
+ Other related duties as may be assigned.
Requires regular and consistent attendance and ability to work during busy, high volume days/times, including some weekends and some holidays.
Marginal functions: Assist maintenance technician with corrective and preventative maintenance functions.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: At least one of the following
+ Three years of relevant, progressively responsible work experience in a marina, fuel sales and/or distribution facility, park, campground and/or recreational facility that includes visitor services, receiving and recording of fuel sales, and/or operations that provide the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job.
+ An Associates' degree in Parks & Recreation, Natural Resource Management or Environmental studies plus 1 year of relevant work experience.
At time of appointment, must possess valid Oregon driver's license.
Desirable Qualifications:Current Oregon Boater Education Card. Experience working in and around water vessels, docks, marinas and marine fuel supplies.
In addition to the above requirements, applications will receive further evaluation based onadequate knowledge of fuel dispensing operations and maintenance; reasonable knowledge of procedures, equipment, safety and supplies used in marine fueling, boat safety, maintenance of a boat launch, RV dump station, trailer and boat storage, RV camping areas, cleaning of restroom facilities and grounds maintenance.Skill insafe operation of fuel dispensing equipment, fuel tanks, cash register and fuel purchase/sale transactions and receipts; general grounds maintenance, and appropriate use of cleaning products.Ability tocommunicate effectively in both oral and written forms; perform basic math, addition and subtraction in order to accurately complete cash and credit card transactions, as well as read and write revenue receipts and records; estimate fuel supply needs; understand and follow verbal and written instructions; remain calm and use good judgment during confrontational or high pressure situations; courteously meet and deal effectively with other employees and the public.
SCREENING & EVALUATION
Work is performed in an outdoor environment and will require the ability to work in all types of weather; requires bending, color identification, crawling, gripping hands & fingers, hearing alarms and voice conversation, keyboarding, kneeling, regularly lifting up to 35 pounds, operating passenger vehicles, pulling, pushing, reaching, running, shoveling/digging, sitting, standing, standing long periods, walking, and walking rough terrain. Work is performed in an environment which involves everyday risks or discomforts and sometimes adverse weather conditions requiring safety precautions, with exposure to chemicals, dust/pollen, fumes and, intense light. Will be working with solvents, grease, oils, fuel products and requires wearing rubber or plastic gloves and safety glasses.
NOTE: Safety conscious work attitude is imperative within a marine environment to lessen environmental issues that could result from a fuel spill.
Background Investigation: While not part of initial applicant screening, the finalist for this position may be required to pass acriminal history backgroundcheck as part of a contingent offer of employment. Conviction of a crime may not necessarily disqualify an individual from employment.
Physical Examination / Drug Screen: Employment is contingent upon a pre-employment drug screen. Presence of non-prescribed drugs, including marijuana, on drug screen results will result in disqualification pursuant to the County's drug and alcohol policy. To determine if physically qualified to perform the essential functions, employment offer is conditional upon satisfactory results of a post-offer medical and hearing exam conducted at county expense.
DRIVING RECORD: Successful candidate will be required to provide a CERTIFIED COURT PRINT driving history obtained from DMV that meets theDouglas County Driver Policy (https://douglascounty-oregon.us/264/Driver-Policy) . Please allow 5-7 days for delivery; out of state allow two weeks.
