Marine Mechanical Engineer

As a Marine Mechanical Engineer, you will be actively engaged in driving industry-leading research and development associated with machinery and systems for marine and offshore application. 

What You Will Do:

Lead research and assess the maturity of new technologies in the marine industry including different machinery and systems of ships and offshore platforms associated with evolving technologies e.g. technologies related to non-carbon/ low carbon-based fuels (e.g. Hydrogen, Ammonia etc.), carbon captures, energy savings etc.  Also detailed knowledge of piping systems (e.g., fresh water, sea water, lube oil, fuel oil, compressed air, hydraulic system, cryogenics piping etc.), machinery, equipment, and various systems on board a ship and offshore installation.  Establish guidance and classification requirements for the marine and offshore industry on the application of new technology.  Support ABS technical community on queries regarding different onboard mechanical equipment and systems. Maintain and demonstrate thought leadership through technical publications and presentations. Participate in industry societies to develop and enhance technical capabilities. 

What You Will Need:

Education and Experience

Minimum of three (3) years relevant engineering experience in the energy industry, shipyard, design/consulting company, shipping/oil company, university, or classification society. Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/ Marine Engineering or other related discipline; M.S. is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of onboard machinery and systems including evolving technologies e.g., ammonia crackers, reformers, electrolyzer, carbon capture, energy saving etc.   Knowledge of general mechanical systems Knowledge of alternative marine fuels, such as hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, and biofuel etc. Awareness of fuel cells technology and application Awareness of emerging technologies and trends in the marine industry including emerging engines, fuels, power generation and energy savings. Strong communicator with excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent command of the English language. Demonstrated ability to work well with others.

Reporting Relationships:

Reports, as assigned, to a Manager or Director.
