Primary Responsibilities
HDR is seeking a qualified individual to join a group of experts in the maritime and waterfront infrastructure group as a Project Engineer. This individual will participate on teams to manage and design small to large projects (construction values typically from $500K to $100M) with a primary focus on the geotechnical, structural, and general civil design elements of projects. Their primary responsibility will involve leading and/or supporting design tasks on projects ranging from limited complexity and scope to those including complex features.
Efforts will be guided by senior level engineers and management, with the expectation that this individual will perform assigned tasks efficiently and independently.
This position will ideally be based out of our Miami office, but can be also be located in either Jacksonville or Tampa.
Primary responsibilities
Performing design calculations for simple to complex marine structural systems and civil infrastructureDeveloping clear, constructible, and practical construction plans and details and preparing technical specificationsPerforming construction field observations to verify general conformance with contract documentsProducing deliverable documents including studies/reports, designs, details, sketches, opinions of costsAssist in project management during project execution including internal delegation and management of duties, subconsultant management, developing and administering project schedules and budgets, supporting fiscal accountability, and administering and delivering quality controlAssisting leadership in and ultimately leading client facing interactions including development of project scopes and strategy, resolution of technical challenges, identifying and managing risks in design and construction, and presenting deliverablesPerforming independent technical peer reviews and providing Quality Assurance / Quality Control reviews of others’ design workProviding as-needed support in local marketing efforts and supporting development of marketing qualifications, technical approaches, and priced proposalsMentoring younger or less experienced staffOther responsibilities will include assisting in the development of best practices. Active participation in a technical organization(s) relative to the industry and/or assistance (coauthoring) in publication of technical articles will be a secondary expectation of this roleLI-JS6
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural EngineeringThe ideal candidate will have direct experience in designing heavy industrial, ports and maritime, and coastal resiliency related projects along with providing construction observation or administration.Professional Engineers (PE) license is required. The license must be in the state of Florida, or the individual must have the ability to obtain a PE License in Florida within three months of hire. Willingness to obtain and maintain PE licensure in other states as deemed of benefit to the program.Knowledge and ability to use AutoCAD and Microsoft Office software is required.Strong oral and written communications skills is required for interaction between peers, management and other design and production staff. Must be able to clearly demonstrate understanding of, or participation with, basic construction methods and the design and performance logic of civil, industrial, and coastal infrastructure and other types of related subject matter.Other experience must include report writing, establishing design criteria, performing structural analysis (soil-structure interaction and laterally loaded soil structures, steel, concrete, timber), performing design calculations, production of construction drawings and technical specifications, and exposure to finite element modeling and non-linear analyses, soil mechanics, soil/structure interaction, and mooring/berthing analyses.Preferred Qualifications
Current knowledge of linear, non-linear, large displacement, high end structural analysis and soil-structure interaction analysis and design software is highly preferred. Examples include: RISA 3D or SAP 2000, GROUP, LPILE, CWALSHT, DeepEx, SupportIt, LEAP Bridge. Familiarity with structural and marine design codes is desired, including but not limited to: PIANC, AASHTO, ACI 318, AISC, ASCE 7, IBC, NDS for Wood Construction, API, OCIMF, MOTEMS, PIANC, UFC and USACE design manuals.Why HDR
