About this opportunity:

Cenovus’ Treasury & Risk Department is recruiting for a Market Risk Analyst. Reporting to the Manager of Market Risk Operations, The analyst will monitor, analyze, and report on market risk exposures to ensure they stay within prescribed limits. Additionally, the role includes performance measurement analysis, preparing and distributing market risk reports, and contributing to ETRM project improvements and new business activities. This position is essential to the overall control framework of the Middle Office.

What you’ll do:

Market risk is accountable for the independent evaluation of commodity market risks and exposures for all marketing, trading and asset related activity to support and supervise strategic decision making at the senior leader level

Measure and analyze commodity market risk for physical and financial trading and marketing activities.

Provide independent validation of commodity market risk exposure, mark-to-market (MtM), P&L attribution and valuation daily

Validate and report commodity sub-book level compliance versus internal market risk controls

Evaluate opportunities to improve data warehousing and visualization in order to communicate commodity focused market risk reports for management and Front Office desk leads

Assist in new business activity ETRM integration and upgrades, such as establishing requirements, providing input to design solutions and participating in user acceptance testing

Demonstrate investment and engagement in collaborative partnership between Front-Middle-Back Office to improve processes, communication and performance measurement reporting

Collaborate across Middle Office to support development of analytical risk tools

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

Legally authorized to work in Canada

University degree in Finance or quantitative field of study (Statistics, Economics)

Minimum 5 years of experience in a role supporting energy markets and commodity trading (physical and financial)

Foundational knowledge of commodity market risk management procedures, models and methodologies

Experience in ETRM environments and commercial skills as evidenced by analytical insights and interactions with collaborators

Confirmation of programming skills (RStudio/VBA/SQL) and use of visualization software (RStudio/Power BI) is preferred.

Strong degree of accuracy and efficiency to deliver quality analysis within a time-sensitive environment.
