Summary This is a Career/Career-Conditional Full-time appointment. Responsibilities Incumbent is responsible for the maintenance, repair, alteration and construction of exterior and interior surfaces and structures built of brick, stone, and block. Repairs and maintains historic masonry on buildings, parapets, and boundary fences, chimneys, fireplaces, manholes, and boilers. Must be able to match existing historic surfaces. Must have a comprehensive knowledge of mixing techniques, applications, etc. Must have extensive skills in cutting and shaping block, terra cotta, brick, and stone. Incumbent must be able to remove portions of walls, partitions or other similar structures and repair in kind, and for the installation of doors and windows. Must be able to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and specifications independently and determine the layout and work sequences. In addition to laying whole brick in straight, horizontal rows, must be able to perform a variety of more complex brickwork. Must be able to patch and/or replace stucco, including paper, wire, scratch, and brown coats, to match existing historic surfaces. Must have a comprehensive knowledge of concrete, terra cotta brick, and stucco surfaces, such as characteristics, mixing techniques, applications, etc. Must have extensive skills in cutting and shaping block, terra cotta brick, and stone. Prepares surfaces for painting by sanding, buffing, and cleaning; cleans brushes and other painting equipment; moves ladders, scaffolding and/or drop cloths; and carries paint, brushes, and equipment. Applies one or more sealing compounds occasionally. Must be able to mix paint to match existing historic colors. Must be able to cut in around windows, doors, corners, lighting, etc. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period. You may be required to travel overnight away from home. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. Additional Information This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate. Physical Demands: Incumbent is frequently required to perform heavy lifting up to 50 pounds, unassisted. Occasionally with the help of others and/or lifting equipment, incumbent may be required to lift over 50 to100 pounds. Makes repairs from ladders, scaffolding and platforms, operates motorized equipment and uses hand and power tools. Incumbent is required to set up and break down scaffolding and platforms. Is continuously required to stand, stoop, bend, and kneel while working. Working Conditions: The work setting is both indoors and outdoors with exposure to abrasive chemicals, dust, grease, and insects. Incumbent is also frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes and bruises; may occasionally be exposed to the possibility of broken bones, electrical shock, and burns. Outdoor temperatures may vary from extreme cold to intense heat. Incumbent is required to have or be able to obtain a valid driver's license. The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval. Documentation for the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) eligibility, submission of ALL SF-50s and performance information for each period of temporary/term employment that qualifies for LMWFA. Performance documentation can be obtained by contacting the supervisors for the positions you served in during your 24 months. If they did not complete performance appraisals ask them to provide a statement of performance for each period of service. The statement must specify the dates for each employment period and your level of performance (dates should match the dates on the SF-50s).
