Master Thesis: Continuous Compute Energy Consumption

About this opprtunity

As the data volumes to be processed grow, device energy consumption rises as well, impacting battery lifetime. To conserve battery, devices can offload some processing tasks to network nodes instead. However, busy serving network nodes may lack additional resources for this offloading. Instead, idle secondary nodes might have the needed resources but would need to be awakened, and this in turn may result in increased network energy consumption.

This research project aims to investigate the impact of device compute offloading on idle nodes, in a continuous compute setup, focusing on the resulting total energy consumption for both the network and the devices.
